Too small and trashed Allez 3rensho: what should I do?
situation: Local thrift/salvage/junk space has what looks like a Konno allez. the offset fork immediately caught my eye.
Good (ish): he wants $150 or so.
Bad:
1. paint is trashed- this was obviously used as a "city bike" for many many years.
2. has at least one good dent in down-tube. not structural but not pretty.
3. components are mid level- mostly worthless, its just the frame
4. its a ~52 frame and I am 6'2"
I know, i should have taken pictures. sorry.
he is thinking $150 because he knows if he pumps up the tires and makes it vaguely rideable.. someone will pay that and head out happy to have transportation.
I look and think: its many hours and not insignificant $$ to get it up to a level befitting its station... and even then- its too small for me. my size: no brainier, but.. not even close?
what say you all? that said, if its still there. anyone size 52ish that is looking for a konno frame in the bay area?

I try really hard not to consider project bikes that don't fit -- especially ones in which a part out will likely not recoup much...

If he can air up the tires and make someone happy for $150, more power to that person. Just hope it doesn't wind up a poor attempt at a fixed gear or single speed conversion and someone can do something worthwhile with it.

Gotta look at it as an at least $500 bike with tons of time put into it for something that will then be useless to you.
The $150 tag doesn’t mean much in your situation.
Not much to think about were it me. On to the next one.

Maybe offer $100 and fix the dent, then reassess. If you only invest time (assuming you have frame blocks or access), then that’s a nice frame to sell or trade. You’d give it a better chance of ending up with someone who would appreciate it.

Hopefully the next bike nerd who 'discovers' it at that same shop, who is also shorter than you, gets to buy it and cherish it and has gratitude for the fact that someone such as you may have passed on it and left it for the next bike nerd

This one doesn't fit, but it sure was a fun project:
IIRC, the frame was initially purchased (with damage) for under $100.

Hard to say without any pictures, BUT, if I was in the area I would be interested in it.

Have any friends/relatives/neighor kids etc this would fit and would be willing to learn and do the work and get the bike for the sweat equity?
if so it would be cool to buy and fix up and move on
good karma for all and maybe another bike forum C&Vaddict aficionado

Please let me know where it’s at. I’m in East Bay. I just did quite well with a “catch and release” of a cool old Masi. It was too big for me and I need a project in a 52-53cm.
I’m am anxious to reinvest those funds into a money-losing project before I spend it on something worthwhile.
