Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My Treks

Trek has been good to me over the years. I've only owned Trek since I was a teenager spending my hard-earned summer job cash in 1997!

1997 Trek 8000zx SHX Brushed Aluminum (I recall they discontinued the brushed aluminum finish early in the production run and went to a painted finish)

2008 Trek Madone 5.5

2010 Trek Fuel EX 9.9

Got this today. 2011 Madone 5.2 I did have to remove all of the Bonty stickers on the wheels. They were too much for me.

Well, I don't think I've posted on this thread yet. This is a mutant 2011 5.9. It's a warranty replacement for a broken frame 2010 4.5. So it's got all the low end 4.5 components on one sweet frame. Took 4 months to work the warranty and got the bike back right as the snow storms started coming. I've not even ridden it and probably won't until late March or April when the roads are clear. Until then it's all winter mountain biking or my all weather bike, a 2000 LeMond Zurich.

Yeah I love this bike! It's my "close-second choice" when I do get my road bike in a few months. So are the wheels available at the store you got it from? The Trek Store where I test rode the 5.2 only carry Easton, Reynolds, and Mavic. They have to special order them Bonty's. I didn't even ask them which is better.

Man! Looking at your bike makes me wanna just say, "forget the Infinito and just go with 5.2 s the frame has a lifetime warranty." Then again, I really am just a lost old fool that can't make up his mind. Either way, I can already tell that I'm gonna have "buyer's remorse".

I ordered the wheels from my local Trek dealer. Here is a pic without the decals. I can buy replacements if the need arises.

2009 Madone 6 series. Built it up myself via separate purchases of frame, gruppo and wheels on *Bay. Di2 system is very sweet.

17 pounds as you see it (56cm). 17.6 with the stock wheels. I just put on two cages and it is now 17.3

midschool22 I think I liked those wheels with the decals better than without. Were decals Platinum or Silver? If & when I get a deal through the club I was thinking of picking up either the 5.0 ACCs or just the 5.0 clinchers, though I don't know which color decal to go with on my '10 5.2

They were silver. If you go to Trek's Project One page and build a bike, you can see the difference in the two.

Yeah, after commenting I saw the white which gave it away as silver. After looking at the bike some more, I don't know which I like better now

Got tired of looking at my poor old 5200 hanging from the rafters.

Her paint's pretty ragged, but she's still as light and strong as ever, and a good bike deserves to be ridden, not hung up. So, I found a set of wheels on craigslist and some DT shifters I'd bought for a long forgotten project. And now she's my winter training bike.

[excuse the cellphone picture]

I guess there is a difference in the 2010 6.x frames and the 2011 5.x's even though they share the same mold. My 58 cm 2010 6.x is 16lb 6ou. with cages, computer, Rival, Race Lite wheels and bottom end Project One components. I can't believe yours is almost a pound heavier.

The 2011 5 series is no longer OCLV carbon but TCT only the 6 series and up is OCLV. The TCT is not made in Wisconsin anymore. I really wanted to get a 5.2 or 5.5 but decided to wait for the 6.2 OCLV.
