Accuweather Forecast for Sunday:
Breezy and warm with intervals of clouds and sun. Winds from the SSW at 10 mph.
High: 65°F

Looks like we might be fighting the winds back in.

alright, then...FINE! I'll pull the whole lot of you AND give you the "look" at about mile 47-ish when I really start the after burners!

.....just hope the registration fee includes a big tank of oxygen and a personal masseuse.

guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens with the weather. today was beautiful, but COLD! and windy. I didn't ride today, but imagine that it would have been painful.

Ok, so the weather is starting to look nice for Sunday. But, I'm not. I have come down with something. Though, very slight, it is still making me icky fealing. Should a grown man use the word, "icky?"

Anyhoo. Say a small prayer for me.

I have a good friend from the team. He's a freaky fast cat 2 racer. And another guy that I have ridden with from the team got second on the Bridge to Bridge ride. The guy who beat him was a pro. I think the whole team is just fast.

They call these rides, "cookie rides."

But I'll show 'em. All I need is someone to pull me along while I rest the whole way until the last 5 miles. Then I'll attack the group like an enraged god on the final stretch while they tearfully pray to keep up. Most of them will pop and have to walk their bikes in. Medics will have to show up from all the blood and broken bones. Women and children will have to turn their heads away from the brutal devastation that will ensue - which is to say my manly, manliness and cycling prowess.

So, wanna join me? You can lead me out.

The beating I'll take will make it feel like I'm a narc at a Hell's Angels rally.

I really want to keep with the lead group. And who knows what their intentions are for Sunday.

if they race; this part of the season should be ~18-20mph. fairly easy riding. Anybody who is "killing it" this early is Killing their season. I would imagine the avg. speed of the Lead group to be under 23

Most (95%) of guys that race will be riding fairly easy; riding in the 39X16 or higher and spinning.

No, but I'm like 5 miles from the route (in Salisbury) this weekend. Looks like the route follows a lot of coutry roads that will be very quiet on a Saturday morning. Weather should be great, too. I should go out there to root the riders on...I can't ride that far

Good luck to Sub and the other Gaston riders. Got my fingers crossed for balmy polar weather.

I'm looking forward to living vicariously through your ride (race?) reports. (With apologies to Lemony Snicket, vicariously is a word that here means "faster than in real life.")

Sorry no other BF'ers yesterday for RRRC Metric 100. Great weather, (execpt for a little too much head wind) 250+ riders, course well marked & supported, nice "swag bag". Good luck to the Gaston riders today!

Good to hear that the ride was nice, PAlt. If I can get up the endurance to ride 100km by this time next year, I'd be interested in that ride since I'm in the area so much.

Question: If I show up on my hybrid, will I get laughed out of the parking lot by all of the roadies?

No, though, there are the requisite hard core riders (see substructure's post about the Gaston ride 1/14), I saw all kinds of bikes, and a number of people who needed to work on more than their endurance abilities . Aren't all of these rides about going out for the challenge to yourself, enjoying the fellowship of other riders, and having a good time? Don't let them intimidate you, go for it!!!

EEEK! the weather was sooo nice on Sunday, that passed on the bike ride and opted for a lovely hike in South Mountain State Park instead. Hope that the ride was fun!
