Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Paint or Parts

So after some test rides I've decided to get a Trck 5.5 madone in a few months, may as well wait till the snow is gone. This is likely the last bike I buy for a good long time and a lot of research has went into it. I've rode the Madone, a Pinarello FP5, a Colnago CLX, Cannondale Carbon1, Cervelo Rs and as much as the flamers hate Trek and I actually never thought I'd consider one it just flat felt and performed better for me. So seeing as how it will be my last one for awhile I'm debating on doing project one and for the same cost I could either upgrade wheels or get a custom paint scheme. I'm really thinking paint just because I can always upgrade wheels later but paint no so easily. So what would you do, be honest wheels or paint?

I'd do paint as you say you can easily change the wheels later, paint not so much. You're going to hear a lot of "it's a tool not a jewel", but if you really plan on having the bike for a long time you might as well get something that you like the looks of.

Paint. Having a P1 Myself....I can attest that the P1 paint jobs are very nice indeed. You can always buy better wheels later.
