What's the funniest comment you've heard while riding your bent?
Mine was a young child asking his mother, "Mommy, what's wrong with that man that he has to ride a bike like that"?

Not a funny comment as a funny happening. Went out on Halloween night on my trike and scared the living crap out of a group of kids with parent.

As I was riding my trike (with a spinner-style flag) past a group of 20-somethings one called out to me "Sauce! So much sauce!"

A few years ago on the annual Hilly Hundred tour, we rode past a fellow on a 'normal' bike who looked at us on our Screamer and exclaimed "Now I've seen everything!"

I think that "comfort" comments directed towards bents aren't really about physical comfort, but rather about ease-of-use. They imagine that steering a recumbent would be awkward.

Years ago, I had a brand new Volae Team high racer and a guy mentioned that I had a strange bike and I must have made it myself. I told him, "Yes. The hardest part was laser etching DuraAce on the crank arms."

My thought many times on many Cycle Oregons following one particular rider on a bent with high pedals and a fairly upright seatback - a double amputee on a unicycle.

Actually this was a comment to my wife. We both ride recumbent trikes because we enjoy them, not due to any physical malady. My wife had just finished riding the RideATAXIA course, which is a benefit ride to raise funds for Friedreich's Ataxia. ("Friedreich's ataxia is an autosomal recessive inherited disease that causes progressive damage to the nervous system.") A bike rider came up to her, still on the trike, and asked her how long she'd had it. She replied "about 3 years". The bike rider said "Really! You're doing great!". It took a moment for my wife to realize the question was about the disease, but she was replying about the trike. To spare embarrassing them both, my wife just said "Thank you" and moved on.
