Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I didn’t see the Ultegra in your post. I thought you were saying the 105 was both 1700 and 1200. I was confused.

Had nothing better to do, and was tired of sulking in the house to took the C2 and madone out for a complete wash. Took the sram chain off the madone and put in in a jar with mineral spirits. Gave it a good shaking, and let it while I cleaned the rest of the bike. The first time I pulled it out one side of the chain was still caked in this sticky grease. Never had that happen before, usually a couple shakes the chain comes out looking new. Gave it a second wash and it was only mildly better, ended up using a tooth brush and piped cleaners to clean the chain.

Not just treatments - steel composition and heat treatment has a huge effect on rust. All steel is not remotely equal.

It's Schrodinger's price - it's simultaneously both 1700 and 1200, and only becomes one or the other when you check out.

Was it the touch test or the puff test? I am told the touch is much more accurate than the air puff, but the air puff is more fun IMO.

The early Treks were painted with Imron.

My best friend, in the very early 70s, in Sacramento, had a souped up 68 Chevelle SS, He had done the souping. He would get it up to 60 and then shift it into third.

Do you use the zeta wheels? I’ve been wondering if they would be actually worth it once I start bringing it to work.

My travel case is the old one, doesn’t have any wheels on it. Something else I plan on replacing once I start bringing it to work more.

What size do you have? What all can you fit in your case with your bike. Mine is a 58, and didn’t appear to have all that much room left in the case once the bike was in there.

I just cannot let anyone touch my eyes. I had a guy some time ago try the touch test on me. He gave up after about 10 tries.

Even my layman’s eyes could easily see from the retinal scans how worse things had gotten in 7 weeks. I missed my 4 week shot because I was in Arizona.

I’ve had no problem with contact lenses for the last 25-30 years, or even drops and me touching my own eye to get rid of dirt/hair, but I can’t imagine Lasik or cataract surgery. HARD stop on that….

I cannot do contacts or drops in my eyes. My wife risks a beating if she even tries to remove an eyelash from my eyes.

My wife uses some "dry eye" drops. She also found some OTC stuff for toenail fungus, which she kept on the nightstand. One evening, she said, "It would be just like me to put the antifungal drops in my eye." We chuckled.

Literally the next day, she comes to me with her hand over her eye, asking what she should do about having put the antifungal drops in her eye.

I can’t count how many bottles of eye drops I’ve wasted believing my wife when she said she “won’t blink THIS TIME” when she asks for help with eye drops. She can’t stand anything near her eyes either.

I had a 67 Mustang and I worked at a trade school teaching mechanic classes. There was a body shop class there complete with a spray booth. One of the students had been hired as a helper to the body shop instructor and he offered to paint my car and do all the body work. This took months, iirc, and he kept hitting me for cash the whole time. I didn't really mind the time or the money but he did really crappy body work, or let the students do crappy work.

I bought Imron paint, gloss black with gold flake in it. It was expensive, a lot more than other paint but it was beautiful in the sun. Dark colors tend to show bodywork and this car showed every lump, bump, and wave. People always complimented the car but if they took a close look they could see the Bondo.

This thread has turned into a horror show for people with eye issues.

Speaking of horror, got halfway into Ouija: something something the second one. Origin of Evil or something. Not bad, and just creamy beautiful in terms of film. Smooth.

Director is enough of a nerd he added cigarette burns, even though it's digital, even for home releases.

Taking contacts out is harder than putting them in.

Talking about my solo, I have Rolf Echelon aluminum wheels on it. They were on sale for $500 with a Campagnolo hub. They have been reliable for me in spite of my 250 pounds.

They have 25 mm GP5000TL running tubeless. They have reinflated without loosing the bead. I drop the pressure to around 20 PSI when they fly.

Mine is a 60 cm frame. It just barely fits in a Ritchey soft case with the original cloth protectors on the frame. I put the whole Shebang in the case. Including the tools I need to assemble it.

It has a 120 cm stem, 175 cranks, but they are Campagnolo so one bolt and they come off. The bars are Fizik Cyrano Snake 46 cm. Saddle is also a Fizik Snake 140 mm wide. Pedals are Shimano SPD. I use the MTB pedals because I wanted walkable shoes.

The shoes go in the case, along with a couple sets of riding kit, but I carry my helmet.

My memory says there are wheels on the case, but I would have to get it down from the garage attic to be sure. If I sprang for an S&S case it might not get as beat up.
