Just Another Reason I Like Steel!!
I posted some pics on the mechanics forum, what a sad end to a really nice bike (1994 Trek 1400 I think). I picked up the remains this weekend from the former owner, as I was interested in the 8 speed RX100STI components, wheels, and more.
One person's loss is another's gain. This failure freed up a lot of parts, that I need to resurrect a few other bikes...

It looks like one of the lugs on the seat post broke. Why not just weld it back on? A good aluminum welder can make it like new.

There have also been a few bikes that required the use of a seatpost with an expander wedge, similar to those used to fasten quill stems. If you can find one of those seatposts of the appropriate diameter you could use it in that frame.
