Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

New Boat Instruments Day, and very nice indeed they are!

If anyone wants a single use 10% discount code for Garmin accessories (not further specified), let me know. I have nine of them!

Casual observation suggests that my BIL, who doesn't get out of the house much, watches several hours of weather news on TV each day.

I don't get it.

Is the weather there THAT interesting? Or perhaps he doesn't like experiencing it first hand, but prefers to keep it at a manageable distance?

Dropped in on a group ride with some of the locals - really good group with a handful of strong riders. I probably went along with too many moves (all of them) in the first 20 miles or so, and didn't have much motivation to wind it up the last couple times thereafter. That and I just wasn't sure about where the sprints ended - they often went to an intersection/stop sign, but I obviously didn't want to blow through, so I was like

Regardless, it was fun and they're a good bunch of guys. Hopefully, I'll get to squeeze out with them on the next ride on Monday - my kids have been ungrateful little *****, so I'm more inclined to take the morning off and ride rather than take them someplace fun and/or interesting and get frustrated with their apathy.

Super humid sweat-fest of a ride done. Now in NJ. Mrs datlas and I emptied out my dad’s storage unit. He would never do it himself and 90% of the items in there are of little or no value. We have been working on this project for several months.

Mission accomplished.

I don't think that I've seen him watch any local weather - it's always national coverage.

I don't believe he's an armchair meteorologist and I haven't noticed any hotties. Sad.

Interesting day here.

First, mowed the lawns and sweat like a new prison biatch. Then, the son brought his dog over to teach it to swim out of the pool. Doggie didn’t like that, and sonny looks like he was in a cat fight he’s so scratched up. Now it’s thunder storming.

The Taycan dealer contacted me and wants to buy it back for an amount that would mean I got to drive it free for a year. Hmmmm….

Mine was a 63cm frame, standard diameter (skinny) tubing. When I would stand up and mash the bottom bracket would swing from side to side so much that other riders noticed and thought it was already broken. I was 220+ and pretty strong then. I sold it to a friend who was about 170 and he rode it for 11 years.

5 of us rode to the beach and climbed one of the canyons. We spent 15 miles or so on Pacific Coast Highway, which I hate. On a weekend like this we are just being passed by 1000s of cars. Once we finished that section we did the canyon climb. It was humid, like everyone was soaked humid. My friend took off his gloves because he was slipping on the bars. Seems backward to me, but that's what he did. Anyway I climbed ok and I was a little concerned about that.

My friend had a coupon which got me a free sandwich and my other friend bought me a soda. Bonus! Around 60 miles with 4400 feet of climbing but I think it was more because my friend's Garmin was acting up and the club schedule said there was more. Regardless, I was happy to finish with no cramps, no nausea, and no weird heart rate stuff.

I did my old 'every other day' ride this morning after TDF coverage. Hotter than I would have liked, but as stated above, that limiting factor is now gone. I had to stop said ride due to a surge in dump trucks and a lack of courteous drivers after lockdown. Things seem to have settled down and I'll try it more often. There's a nice 24km extension to that 36km ride, for when I get into better riding shape.

This is one reason Mom and Dad sold The Ancestral Home to my sister - so they didn't have to clean out what was, in the end almost 60 years of accumulation.
