Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The holiday table is going to look different this year. Last year, we lost my step-dad. In just over a month, we are adding my first grand-baby.

Went MTBin today. Not sure if I was fast or slow, not sure If I was having fun or not. I wanted to like it, but the course was so narrow and the cut backs were so sharp, most of the time I was going slow as ****. I don’t see how it’s physically possible to go any faster. I went down some steep hills which was thrilling. Think i’ll just stick to being a roadie for now.

I think it's best for most people to learn the skills when they are younger but for casual trail riding anyone (almost) can play. Most of what I do now is pretty tame.
I've had some really great times on the dirt. There are no cars and riders are usually not trying to drop each other. It's a great change of pace from road riding and has helped me with burnout in the past.

The other thing is the weather. With some exceptions, I hate road riding in the rain but mountain biking in the rain is a blast. I rode in the snow a lot in the 90s, so much fun! And wind doesn't bother me on the dirt unless it's just howling.

Off road riding here is as flat as on road. I have an old unsprung MTB. Would be nice to have some suspension, if only in the front. I do it at times, and enjoy it.

Let some of the air out, maybe put a fatter tire on front.

All is well…enough.

I’m looking forward to being Grampy. I love being a dad to my girls, and this new adventure should be a lot of fun.

In my experience, when you think it’s not possible to go faster on a bike, you’re wrong. Someone is always better/faster/dumber.

Amazing that there actually is a bicycle in the background. Or is that yours, being used as a prop in the picture.

I am not particularly a Porsche fan, and less so after a person I knew quite well was killed along with his navigator in Targa Tasmania about a year ago -- an event that I was the media manager for in its second, third and fourth years back in the 90s. But this Porsche does look pretty impressive.
