For us, buying a Yeti cooler was supporting a local business. One that a friend worked at at the time, in fact.

I don't think I'd scavenge one, though. it is very nice and works better than we need even in a car driving 16 hours through Texas summer heat.

Hey, now! Some of us fat dads used the knock-off RTIC coolers, and filled them with Gatorade. An experienced softball dad doesn't leave the cooler in the parking lot, but loads it into a wagon to park next to his chair with a built-in shade canopy. At the big softball complexes, it can be a long walk back to the parking lot.

My kid didn't start swinging a Ghost until she was 12...because that was the year they first came out. The Ghost became her bat of choice until she stopped playing, and used almost every version they made. I miss not buying the latest Ghost for my kid. Here's what she did to one of them along the way...


Top left was when the crack was pretty well established. From there's her goal was to hit with it until it totally snapped in half (never around other people besides me). I was surprised about how far the ball was still flying off the bat, right up until the end. The last swing wasn't as dramatic as expected. There was one last strand of CF that didn't snap, and it kept the end of the barrel from flying off into the distance, the way she envisioned. Easton replaced the bat under warranty.

Oh, when she’s 12 she’ll get a Prism or Ghost or something similar, but she just turned 10 and isn’t strong enough yet so she’s swinging a -12 Axe Element. She’s a contact hitter and has some good wheels. When the time comes, I’ll have no issue doing it and getting her a new one every other year.

Bike shop called today to let me know the cost of the group set install.

230.00. I’m not sure what I was expecting but that was more than I thought. Plan now is to have them just install the BB, and i’ll install the rest. I’m not all that confident in my ability but I if mojo can do it.




Funny, I asked my buddy how much he was charged at another bike shop. He was like 230!!!!! I was only charged 100! Come to find out, he paid 100 dollars for a crank install not the complete groupset. That seems a little steep to me too.



Let me ask you guys this. What’s the hardest part and what takes the most time with a groupset install?
No internal cables? Too me it seems like the bar wrapping, and the indexing would take the longest.

Running the cables is still pretty time consuming. Also, setting up the FD and RD properly takes time. There are some really good YouTube videos that walk you through the process. Take your time and you won't have as many undo/redo/undo/redo problems.

It took me 2-3 hours to do the full install of my groupset, but fi I had to do it again it would probably take only an hour or so. That includes removal of old BB and install of new one.

With no internal routing, there is nothing hard about it. The indexing is really easy on the R7000 once you understand how it works. There are good videos on the tube showing the set up and indexing procedures.

At 10, my kid was using a mid-level -11 Demarini Vendetta. Composite, but truly mediocre, and a price to match. At 10, being a contact hitter is what you want to see. NOTHING is more important in hitting than the athletic skill of getting the bat on the ball at the right time. My kid had the kind of speed that turned triples into doubles, but she developed the power that gave her the chance to do the 240' trot a whole lot of times.

When you're ready, and if you decide to go with a Ghost, PM me. I've got a guy...Batman, I call him. Legit Easton dealer (Rawlings and Mizuno, too) and has the BEST prices. I'd be happy to share his contact info with you.

I think I paid $100 to remove the old cranks and BB and replace with the new ones. I did everything else. Might have been less.

EDIT: Have them install the cranks, too, unless you have that tool for the NDS crank, AND a torque wrench. Everything else is a set of allen keys, cable cutters, and maybe a pair of vise grips (I put them on the ends of the brake cables when I tighten the cable fixing bolt, to pull on the cable while I hold the brake pads on the rim. Needs 3 hands and I only have the standard 2.)

Setting up the front derailleur was the fiddliest part. It used to be that the FD was the easiest - set the cage height and align with the teeth in the big ring, set the limit screws, shift the STI to the low, run the cable, pull the slack, tighten the screw. The new Shimano FDs are a lot fiddlier. BUT, if you follow the directions, it works out okay. The thing is, I don't feel like the new FD set up is any advance on the 7400 series Dura Ace from 1991.

Based on my recent experience replacing the internally-routed shifter cables on my gravel bike, and an unusually-long battle with getting things dialed in (I've been wrenching my own bikes since I was a kid), $230 might be a damned bargain!

A family friend was a scout for the Atlanta Braves before he died from Covid. He really pushed his son hard in baseball, and his girls in other sports. Not sure it did much good in the long-term seeing how the big league sports lottery is so competitive and limited in opportunities.

It does go in the back of a Lexus, of course. Though I think Denalis are a bit more.
