Mongoose Hoop D

Hey guys, just recently found this bike on the curb. I originally picked it up for my son to ride since he outgrew his Schwinn pixie already haha. When I got home I did a little research and saw that some of these for for a decent amount of $. I figure this one isn’t one of the vintage valuable ones but I’d like to know how to ID it to get an approximate year. Thanks!

I'm going to say that bike is from 1998, based on:
  • how the head tube passes through the down tube
  • the down tube prominently sticks out in front of the head tube
  • the rear brakes are calipers mounted upside down on the seatstay bridge
  • Radial spoke front wheel
It also looks like there are two different models of the Hoop-d from 1998. The other has a wraparound gusset where the head tube, top tube, and down tube meet and the down tube doesn't stick out in front of the head tube.

Look at the BMX Museum for examples.

Thanks for the reply. I went on there and they all look very similar for a span of like 4 years so it’s pretty hard to tell but i agree, some 98 and 99 bikes seem to be the most similar ones.
