I found this on craigslist, it's near by and in my price range. $100. Is it worth the money? Thanks!

Probably, but the seller gave you just about nothing to go on. Miyata made a lot of models, from bottom end to high end. The good news with a clueless seller is that you might get lucky and it is something special. Just about any Miyata is worth $100, but the bottom end ones are not worth much more. Is it ready to ride? Does it fit?
Since it is nearby, why not go look at it? If it is a good deal, it won't last long.

That's what I was thinking. I believe it's in working order and it does fit me... the problem is that I'm in college and it's long long long walk through some sketchy neighborhoods to get there.
If it were a low end Miyata in good condition, how would it compare to a Schwinn Varsity (another bike I'm looking at) in good condition.

I would agree the miyata is worth $100. If it is in riding condition right now, you will be quite happy with the bike. Can't see much from the picture, but it looks to be in pretty decent shape. I've have a miyata, and love the bike. At the very least, go check it out and give it a ride.

He said it is like new condition and everything works fine! I'm picking it up tomorrow and I'll definitely post some pictures and what not. Thanks for all the help everyone!!!!

For anyone who was interested... The bike turned out to be a One Ten Miyata in near perfect condition. It does have downtube shifters and a cromoly frame. For a 100 dollars, I think it was a great deal. It will suit my needs perfectly and is so much lighter than my Free Spirit. I'll try to post some picture soon.

Finally had the camera so I could get some pictures of my Miyata. Gave the handlebars a nice new wrap. Better late them never, hope you guys like them.

Looks like early Shimano 600, but my memory is pretty fuzzy as my (Japanese made) Bianchi had Suntour and Dia-Compe on it. The rims are probably 700 and not 27. The only advice I'd give is not to rely on the brake extensions. Nice bike.

Condition looks great! Amazing how many older bikes turn up with original tires, often uncracked and still supple.
