My P1 Pedals gave out on me a couple of weeks ago so I decided to go with a crank based power meter instead of the pedals.

Ended up going with a Rotor 2inPower dual sided power meter and so far I couldn't be happier.

I bought a pair of replacement Keo cleats for my shoes, except my shoes hurt so much that I may ditch the shoes too. I'm beginning to feel too old to wear cycling shoes anymore considering how much they hurt my feet now. At 65 I doubt I'll be finding anything more comfortable either. The problem is that I have Assioma power meter pedals and these require Keo cleated shoes. I may have to DIY something by drilling out an old pair of running shoes as an experiment and mounting cleats to them. I still don't understand why there aren't cycling shoes that are more like running shoes, maybe with a stiff bottom but otherwise soft. Not everybody that is into cycling needs an absolute connection between their feet and pedals.

I also bought a 13-29 cassette to replace the 13-26 cassette. It was getting noisy and I figured I could use a little boost to my lowest gear. NYC is mostly flat but I do go and ride elsewhere from time to time.

Lake bicycle riding shoes. My first bicycle riding shoes. Have tested them around the block a few times. So far so good. Have not fallen yet. Today is my first ride in my new shoes. Hope I can make it with out eating it.

Maybe you should try seeing a foot doctor and see what's causing your pain and what can be done about it. Make sure you deal with a doctor that knows a thing or two about the needs of cyclists. I would also suggest going to a pro fitter, but you probably have already done that and got no relief.

I have pain in one of feet in my big toe due to arthritis, which I didn't know what was causing the pain till I went to a foot specialist, so if I take the meds he prescribed, I'm good to go. But the pills don't take it all away, and as I have gotten older the pain is worse, so I have to see the specialist again.

@zacster, I agree with @rekmeyata. Podiatrists can be huge helps. They are for me. Cycling is my favorite thing to do, and it was excruciating for me until I saw a podiatrist.

I never could get my Suntour V-GT to shift reliably with 7 speed indexed shifters. On 5 rides with a Microshift R47, every shift has been perfect. https://www.microshift.com/en/product/rd-r47-rd-r47s/

A suntour v-gt rear derailleur isn't designed to be indexed. And suntour derailleurs that were indexed were designed to shift with Accushift(suntour) instead of SIS(shimano).
The Microshift is designed to work with a shimano indexed shifting. Its a nice silver too.

Some people report successful index shifting with old Suntour ders and Shimano freewheels and shifters,. Maybe 90% of my shifts on the road were fine, and they all worked on the stand. The failed shifts seemed to be due to some stickiness in the mechanism. I think my V-GT needs to be overhauled, but I don't have the skill. I figured there was a significant probability I could take it apart but not put it back together, in which case I'd need a new der anyway, so I just got the new one.

Before you worry about that V-GT, be sure your cable and housings are great. At my LBS job, I find that drag inside the housings, either from cable or housing corrosion, or both, is a primary cause of misbehavior. That and bent RD hangers. Them are pretty common too. Just correcting a hanger alignment can yield a "miracle cure".

I use to have Suntour V-Gt and it shifted pretty darn good for friction, in fact back in the day when consumer reports tested a bunch of other brands of derailleurs, the cheap VGt beat all of them in shifting performance.

Then later I moved on to Suntour Superbe, and what I thought was good shifting turned into amazingly fast and smooth shifting even while the pedals were apply a lot pressure while climbing a grade.

I know, from owning SIS, that Suntour Superbe is equally as fast as SIS, and the VGT is pretty darn close. Friction shifting is an art, and it takes practice, but once you get it down it's very fast especially the Suntour stuff. One of my bikes has Suntour ARX and it's not as good as the old VGt was and obviously no match for Superbe. I am seriously thinking about removing the ARX and put my spare Superbe on the bike. Not sure what went wrong with ARX because Suntour had the best derailleurs, but they did make a few bad ones.
