Sunglasses - Polarized yay or nay for cycling?

This is the ONLY negative I have about polarized glasses and moving your head will fix it. I first discovered it with my car radio screen, and on a handheld GPS, but neither were even remotely significant to give up the polarized lenses. In fact, I find polarized lenses enhance your ability to see wet or oily surfaces. I have ridden bikes, fished, driven in road rallyies, taken photos, for many, many years, and polarized glasses were one of my must have items.

It is amazing how much better you can see things if you have blue block sun glasses.

it's a no from me. I hate how on some screens it blocks what you can see because it's polarized also. Then have to tilt your head 90 degrees to see it. ha-ha

The Garmin display on the 520 was polarized at 45 degrees allowing you to see the screen in portrait or landscape mode except it doesn't have a landscape mode. The 530 has the display correctly oriented so you can see it with polarized glasses...unless you turn it sideways to landscape mode.

Then drivers, pilots, ice fishermen, skiers, mountainclimbers, pedestrians, etc. could not see ice or puddles. So they all need to stop using polarized lenses.

So I'm in the market for a new pair of sunglasses. In the past I have ridden with everything form $8.00 glasses from 7-11 to most recently my $150.00 polarized Bolles which I stepped on. I was at one of the LBS today looking at glasses. I mentioned that I like them polarized and the sales person said that polarized are actually dangerious for cycling due to the fact they block glare which could potentially make a cyclist miss water, ice, etc... on the road.
I have never heard of this before but I was wondering what everyone's thoughts were? I will always used polarized while driving but now I wonder if I need another pair for cycling.

However there might be some truth to this. I ride with Oakley Jawbreakers which are polarized and some Sutro which are "Prizm" based and the way I was educated is that not all sports should use polarized glasses since they can effect depth perception. To your initial comment yeah polarization could mean you miss ice or seriously miss oil spills. Personally I think the benefits of polarization outweigh the negatives but to be frank I would just get a pair of non polarized glasses and see if there are third party polarized lenses. I got two mirrored polarized lenses for my Jawbreakers from SeekOptics for $17 each.
