HandleBar Phone Mount - Bag or holder?
I can't decide on what/how mount my iphone 11 to the handle bars of my road bike. I only have a couple shirts with pockets and often like to just put on my bib, t-shirt and go riding.
I like the idea of a phone on the bars so it's quick access AND so I can see texts in front of me.
I do have a Garmin 530 which I forgot it reads texts. I'll have to set that up.
Would this be dumb on my bars? A top tube bag gets in the way as I'm short and my legs hit.
A quadlock wont work as my phones case has a loop on the back for my fingers.

Another approach is to get a phone case specifically for use on your bike, stick a Garmin-mount adapter on the back, and use a Garmin mount (on the stem, stem cap, or out front). This is what I'm doing. Just make sure the phone case has a smooth flat section in the center, for sticking on the adapter.

I use a garmin out front mount with a nite ize steelie ball and magnet system. The magnet is really strong and has never dropped my phone yet. I like being able to rotate and tilt my phone in all directions. I also use it in my car so it was convenient and easy. I've tried several other mounts and either they took up to much room or were too hard to remove the phone one handed.

There are bike computers costing less than $100 that can display your phone's texts. Keep your iPhone safe and use the computer for speed, distance, etc., and some phone connectivity.
Check out the Bryton Rider 10 and 15, and some Lezyne models.
There's also a low cost Wahoo computer that relies on phone connectivity, but I don't know whether it can display texts.
Even the largest bike computer will weigh less than a phone with mount on the handlebar, so it won't affect the bike's handling.
I used an iPhone 4s, which is relatively small, with a Delta phone caddy for about a year. It still felt heavy and affected the handling a bit. And it didn't last long per charge as a bike computer. Same with my larger Android phone. I got a low price GPS bike computer (XOSS G+) in January, and now the phone stays in my pocket. But my bike computer doesn't relay texts or calls from the phone. I don't get enough calls or texts to need that. But I might suggest a Bryton to a friend who runs a business 24/7 and often gets business calls during our bike rides.

I'd be using the 530 then put the phone and ID in a top tube bag. I really like my Topeak TriBag, $13.. My thought is the phone is pretty expensive, I use mine all the time and don't really want to drop or break it, thus
I keep it dry and protected, not out on my h-bar.

If you ever go over an embankment and your bike stays up on the road, then you might wish your phone was with you. I know that's extreme thinking and I've never been in such, but I like the idea that my phone will be anywhere I am.
If you never ride solo, I suppose it's not an issue.

They need to make cases that'll fit assorted Garmins and Wahoo's that have broken mounting tabs !

Nothing fancy, but it gets the job done. Attaches to the stem with velcro. Also reasonably water resistant (rode in a pretty good rain this morning and my phone stayed completely dry).
