My Free Schwinn 10 speed Pictures
Hey Guys,
Finally had time to take out the Schwinn and take some pictures. I know it looks like hell, but it was free. If I didn't take it it would have gone to the scrap yard. The body shop at work is will to paint it for free.I have most of the parts to make it my ride around beater. The head set number is 2800 and the droput number is SJ086763. Don't hold back just say what's on your mind.....

You got a great deal! It looks like a Schwinn Traveler, which had super nice fully lugged Made in Japan frames.
All the fixie people will say, make a fixie out of it, I say restore it to its full glory. It has a really nice SUGINO Crank!
I just hope you're taller than 6' 1"......

Thanks guys,
I'm 6'3" so this bike fits me to a tee. I'm planning to build this bike back to original shape, with new paint and decals. What year is this bike? Are there any Schwinn catalogs that have this bike in it? Also who would sell decals for this bike. Sorry for all the questions.
Thanks,
Mike

There should be a four digit number engraved into the head badge. The 1st three of those numbers are the day of the year the bike was made and the last is the last number of the model year.
EG: 3654 would be a bike made on the 365th day of 1984 or 1994 or 2004.

For what it's worth, I don't think that's a Traveler. I have a 1980, and the fork crown isn't chromed. Nor is the original crank as nice.

Yes. With the first number being 280 it could be either a 1980 or a 1981 model year.
Here is a catalog page link to each.
