Here's my Fullpro from 1992. Thanks to this forum I now know the original equipment specs.
Ordered already a San Marco Titanio 200 sadlle (Bontrager version) and the PD-7401 pedals. Ribbon will also be replaced.
Does anyone have (NOS or as new) ST-7400 bracket covers as mine are a bit sticky ?
And I'm looking for the screw (race number holder) below the top tube.

Careful with that seatpost though. You seem to be beyond the minimum insert level.
As for the screw, that's probably just an M5 bottle cage hole.

Thanks for your comments JaccoW but I only have the bike since last Sunday. This picture was taken only after a first cleanup. No adjustements made. The seat will come down 2cm. I will post more after all has been set up.

I posted this about 6 months ago (previous page). It popped up again on the local CL yesterday, looking only slightly different. There was a clamp on frame pump bracket on the seat tube. This time the price was much lower, so I thought I'd inquire about it. Emailed with the seller last evening, told her I would think about it overnight, thought about it this morning, got back in touch with her late this morning. She told me I was second in line, which, to be honest, was fine with me, as I really didn't need or want n+1, even though I thought a Koga might be interesting to own. About a half hour later she told me the first person had bailed on her, so I was up next. We met, talked a little, said she bought it for her son, from the person who had posted the ad back in December. He didn't ride it because it was "too fast" (her words, not mine). It might have also had something to do with the fact that her son was like 6'6", so this is way too small for him. Anyway, even though she said she was firm on the price, I offered $25 less, and while she said she had a few more people interested in it, she accepted my offer, because she was "ready to be done with it".
So, I am now n+1 again, sigh. I made a couple minor adjustments and put a couple miles on it. It rides really nicely, so I can only imagine how nice it will be once it is cleaned up and set up the way I want it to be.
Based on catalog/brochure specs, it is a 1985 GentsRacer.

"As purchased" minus the clamp on frame pump bracket, which I removed almost immediately upon returning home.


Out on a quick test ride.


The very best part is the "unobtanium" Shimano plastic stem plug. Amazingly it is still in one piece. This will be going on another bike later this summer.

I've had this one, from 1983. But without forks with braze-ons.

The fork, upper rear rack and seat tube H2O bottle braze on's were all added on before I had it repainted by Toxic Harold, who previously was the lead painter for Brodie Bicycles, Rocky Mountain Bicycles, and Dekerf Cycle Innovations. Not white anymore also, it is now almost a light shade of Crest Tooth Paste blue.

Bought as a frameset, no stickers or anything, but has Koga seat stay caps. Pretty sure its a Koga Miyata Gran Winner (1987 most likely) with full 1055 (105SC) kit donated from another purchase. Rode nicely, but sold it a while back.

My first real bike was a Gentsracer S in the classic metallic olive and chrome. Such an iconic colour, I've only ever seen a few others but can spot them a mile off on a group ride or fondo.

I have been riding my Koga Miyata Radonneur since 1982 and it has around 80000km on the "clock". It is an absolutely brillant bike and until 3 years ago it still many of the original parts such as the Shimano golden Arrow derailleurs (7 speed), downtube friction shifters, brakes and, levers, handlebar, Saddle and pannier.
Since I am now coming into the age where I need bigger gears i started a gradual upgrade to wards newer and 'improved' spec components such as 11 speed Deore XT, indexed shifters, flat handlebar, Miche brakes and new Campag Scirocco wheels. It is still going like a bat out of hell and I always take it for touring.
It still has the original pedals but now on carbon cranks and spider with a power meter. All in all a brilliant upgrade which gets me over the biggest hills and happily on 100mile a day rides.

Thanks for this great thread: excellent reading with some beautiful bikes.

I've been searching for a lugged Japanese made Koga Miyata - as yet haven't found one, though recently collected this later Terraliner, stamped HOL1 1151. Looks like it's had a tough life & it needs some work and repairs to get it running.

With apologies for the poor photos: I'm guessing this is the 2001 model, tig welded in Taiwan (the unicrown fork appears very similar to a Giant roadster circa 2000).

The 2001 catalogue describes the Terraliner as a 'SportsHybride,' a parallel 71 degree frame with FM-1 (main?) frame and chromo fork. Clearances are generous, particularly at the chainstays.

Both top and down tube have a fine ping sound when tapped and the seat tube is not splined: it'd be fascinating to know what the tubes are drawn to, and how the oversizing affects the ride quality.

Will update with better photos. Any advice or further shared knowledge is appreciated.

The Terraliner out for it's debut 25 miles/ 40 kilometres- it's a comfortable and stable bike. Climbs and descends well too.

There was a lot of rust and paint chips (a rushed tin foil and varnish repair) and some damaged parts too: wheels, chain, cables, left crank, mudguards, rear rack and front v brake were replaced or brought over from the last bike, including the Widek metal bell.

Glad it's back on the road where it belongs. The only probable changes for the future will be the Traffic Flex stem for a simple quill, setting up dynamo lighting and eventually repainting the frame.

It's not a lugged Japanese made Miyata frame sadly, but another later part of the KM story. Does anybody know the history or which company was contracted in Taiwan for these TIG welded frames?

We received a speedy, courteous email reply from Koga regarding the Terraliner - but are still unable to find out the exact model year.
There's a HOL1 stamp adjacent to the frame number, and the colour is shown for the 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001 catalogues.

Sorry for the late reply. I have been digging as well. The frame and colour could be from any of these years, as it seems to have the S-bend in the chaintube.

There are a few things that make me think this one is indeed from 2001:

• Crankset. The 2001 model had a Shimano Deore FC-M510 crankset. Pre-2001 these came with Shimano STX-RC, which looks similar but has different lettering
• Headset. The 2001 till 1999 models had a roller bearing/ball bearing headset whereas the 1998 and earlier model had full roller bearing headsets
• Rear derailleur. The 2001 and 2000 model had a silver/black Shimano Deore ST-M510 while the 1999 and earlier models had Shimano STX-RC that were completely silver.
• Colour: 2001 is 'Night Blue Metallic', 2000 is 'Magic Green Metallic' (but looks black/blue to me), 1999 is 'Magic Black Metallic' and 1998 is also 'Magic Black Metallic'. Since yours is clearly blue I'm sticking to 2001.

I don't have the 2001 price list but the 2000 model was €928 back then (which converts to €1335.12/$1571 today) and probably weighed 12.9 kg (28.4 lbs) in a size 57.

Thank you for the Terraliner information - much appreciated. Yes, the chainstays have the S-bend and a lot of room for tyres.

Since you can never have too many Koga Miyatas, when I saw an ad for a GranTourer frameset for about 40 euros, I didn't hesitate. It's a 66cm frame - finally a bike in my size! Paint is excellent shape, no rust internally or externally. FM-2 main triangle, HM-2 rear triangle and fork. This exact bike in this exact color is in the 1985 brochure, featuring 22mm tires. They had different ideas about touring in the 80s. I will build it up with 650b wheels so that I can fit 38mm tires.

Awesome looking tourer. Those chrome socks are in great shape! Yeah those early tourers were definitely more road bike with fenders than the 50mm tyre stiff behemoths of today. Any ideas of the brake calipers you want to be using?
Curious to see what 650B looks like on a frame that size. I might use it on my own tourer project in the future. The Graveller can fit 42-622 tyres at the moment with fenders (40mm measured) but wider would be nice.
