1999 GT Outpost (Rigid)
I found this on Craigslist for $100. Based on the paint job and what looks like aluminum tubing, I'm thinking it's a 1999 (see https://www.bikepedia.com/QUICKBIKE/...post&Type=bike)
I'm considering picking it up and swapping the parts over from my current vintage MTB, this HardRock I've set up as an upright, screw around adventure bike: https://www.bikeforums.net/22044247-post739.html
The proposed swap to the GT is solely a style issue, I just like the look. So two questions:
- is the GT worth the 100 bucks?
- am I better off sticking with the HardRock?

Triple triangle GT frames are nice rides. Yeah, it's worth a C-note, looks pretty clean.
Should you stick with the Hard Rock? Why not ride them both for awhile and see if you like the Outpost as equipped?
If you don't, you can always swap over and try it the other way, no harm done.

I'd say no. Essentially you want the frameset for $100 and that's too much for a low end model like the Outpost. Plus you'd need a 1 1/8" quill stem that would work with your BMX bars.

It's worth $100, just based on the condition. But to my eye, the earlier 3T GTs, and your HardRock, have more C&V soul. I would not strip the HardRock; those components would look out-of-place (and may not all be compatible) on the turn-of-the-century GT frame. And vice-versa. So to me, it would be more of an N+1 question -- do you want another bike?

The Outpost is a chromoly frame. Its a nice bike and worth the asking price.
Just not if you are planning to swap parts

Chromoly fork, but the frame is 7000 series aluminum:

Awesome, thank you all for the feedback. I think I'm going to hold out for an older, nicer steel framed triple triangle...something with a little more soul. If I had the room, I'd probably pick this one up anyway, but I'll have to leave it out there for some other lucky overly tall dude.
