Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

That sucks, fingers crossed you get through it. We nearly had the same issue - they wanted employment confirmation within three days prior to closing, except big companies don't do that at all and so by luck we happened to be closing the day after payday. They did retract that requirement a few days prior, but it had me all worked up for a week. Sounds like they're still doing that to you.

From talking to friends it sounds like this is pretty common. I would have thought everything would have been squared away a couple of days before closing but I was wrong. I wish I knew how the “waiting til the last minute” benefits anyone.
With my job we have to basic rules.
1. Don’t make the news. This is important on many levels.
2. Don’t make plans, whether it be on an over night or at home.

I should apply rule number 2 to all aspects to my life. Might be disappointed less.

Yeah I feel you on that.

It does seem stupid. They sprang it on us as a new thing in the Covid layoffs era (two days down from five days as the acceptable lag). But really, how much lesser can the risk be that someone is going to lose their job in those exact three days? Compared to the risk of losing the deal because the person isn't going to get their employer to write a letter confirming employment. My response to the lender doing that was to go make sure I could borrow it from my parents and bypass them. Brilliant risk reduction strategy...

I became a step-grandfather this afternoon. I entered the picture when Mom was seven. She turned 41 last week.

And yet I keep setting new PRs on my BLUE bike, beating ones I'd set on my RED bike.

EDIT: I think that "new bikes are faster" trumps "red bikes are faster". If I'd paid the extra $700 for the red bike with Ultegra instead of the blue bike with 105, I'd have both going for me and I'd be unbeatable!

Having “s-works” on the side of a bike adds 100 watts. I’ve seen things.
