Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Checks out.

Incidentally, doing the weedeating along the "road verge" is one of the two biggest pains of mowing the big lawn.

care-a-mel unless it’s doing it to veggies, then it’s car-melizing

Once a year or so, take a nice flat blade spade and dig out a wedge 1-1.5" wide at the top all along the sidewalks/driveways. It's a lot of work initially but if you're doing weekly line-trimming it's a lot easier when there's a gap. Probably not good in frequent freeze areas, as water is more likely to get under the concrete, freeze, then heave.

I opened my rear Record hub this afternoon. Figured it's easier without a wheel built around it. The grease appears functional though discolored. The rebuild will be a job for tomorrow. Along with the front.
I ate weed this morning, for an hour, and felt like I'd ridden hard for two or three. 90° and high humidity. A liter of Powerade and a bag of potato chips fixed me right up.
I need to learn to stop before I hit the wall. Maybe next time.

That would be a lot of work. I guestimate it's maybe 800 feet long and not great soil.

Trimming wouldn't be so bad if it was proper grass (blades growing straight up), but there's a lot of weedy stuff that lays on the ground. And to do the roadside, you have to contend with traffic on the Kingston Pike speedway (note lack of shoulder #KnoxvilleRoads ).

That's not a parking. I don't know what it is, but our parking's are at least 3 feet wide.

I only know of one in my area, and it's on the group's usual Wed night ride route. It also includes light rail tracks, right down the middle, that need to be crossed twice at too-shallow of an angle for my liking. If there's not too much traffic, I'll use as much lane as I can to cross as close to perpendicular as I can, but it still makes me a little nervous. Here's the Goog Street View -

I doubt I'll ever ride a bicycle through the one by here, since there are a couple of much easier ways across the freeway.

I'm gonna miss the roundabouts that got removed, not sure why most drivers hate them.

Even though I don't go through there all that often, I frequently see people getting confused and going the wrong way. One time I saw someone drive on to the light rail tracks.

Roundabouts are awesome 'til someone unfamiliar gets addled. Fortunately, more and more have been popping up around here, so people are becoming acclimated.

I don't get the point of them when they're only 12" wide. That seems like way more hassle than they're worth.

I always thought that was only done in areas of sandy soil and as "make-work" for privates in boot camp.

Yes, that does happen if the W' isn't large enough and increasing it until the negative numbers go away seems reasonable to me, but what do I know? Recently, as noted above, Intervals spontaneously generated a W' for me, which seems uncannily accurate and has gone almost to zero, but not negative

BTW, if you want to share intervals.icu data, my handle is Eric W. WhyFi and phrantic09 use it too.
