Addiction LXXX

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It puts me in Philly. Mostly. Which makes sense, since I lived in that region for a little over 30 years.

Checks out.

Incidentally, doing the weedeating along the "road verge" is one of the two biggest pains of mowing the big lawn.

Pave it.

Aside: Would that even be legal? Seems like there's probably sidewalk ordinances.

Recently, I keep underestimating my strength on the bike. Two times in the last few rides, I found myself rolling up on younger, fitter-seeming woman on slight downhills, and then not passing them since I figure they'll only pass me again on the next hill. But then I find myself able to go a lot faster than they go on the hill, so I passed them and never saw them again.

I mean, I don't want to be That Guy, who passes a woman and then she passes him when he inevitably blows up. But I haven't been blowing up. What's happening? Am I getting fit or something?

Check your local ordinances, but chances are you'd be within your rights to dig that grass up, lay some weed cloth in and drop in some pavers. Concrete would probably be OK too, but more chance of regulations in place for pouring concrete there.

Good, they could break that way. They should be carefully placed, while not twisting with a load, lifting with your legs and keeping a straight back.

Well mine was spot on. My parents grew up in richmond, and a lot of the words I use come from them.

Researching a road closed along a route that I really want to ride, I stumbled upon a bike group. I was aware of this bike group and one of their sat morning rides, but I didn’t realize how official the group was. Membership fee, and from the website it looks like in order to participate in a group ride you have to register online. I think this might be due to covid though. I was spoiled with the scalpers back in newport news.

Grew up in "pop" country, lived in "soda" land and I don't like either (though "soda" sounds less obnoxious). Places where everything is "Coke"? Nope.

I've never lived in the South, but I order a coke if I'm ordering a fizzy caramel-colored drink at a restaurant.
