I am in the process of replacing the Atom freewheel on my '72 Raleigh DL90 5 speed Sprint. The inner (larger) bearing race is pitted from years of active use and inadequate preventative maintenance on my part. I found a new Sunrace freewheel and ordered it from a place called Bells Bike Shop. After I removed the Atom I also removed the axle because I had noticed it was bent. Then found the bearing retainer on the freewheel side is pretty bad. So now I would also like to replace both wheel bearing sets, both retainers and the axle if I can find one. I did straighten the axle chucking in my drill press and using a rubber mallet to true it up. Not perfect, but better than it was. If I can find a new one I'll replace it too. The hub bearing races are ok.
At this point in time I cannot find the parts online. The axle (hub is apparently a Sturmey-Archer per the stamped spoke protector disc) mics .366 dia x 26 threads per inch which I have learned the Brits called a 3/8"-26 thread, common for bike manufacturing per the article I read. Standard fine pitch is 24tpi. Does anyone on the forum know of a place or places that would have these replacement parts?

It's possible I have a trashed wheel in my basement from a 5-speed Sprite with an S-A hub. If so, you're glad to have the axle for the cost of mailing. As far as bearings, you can just go with loose bearings instead of using those retaining rings.

Yeah, there should be tons of those hubs around. I've got one in a wheel in my garage and just went out and measured it and best I can tell, mine is 9.5 mm by about 175 mm. Came with my wife's 1974 Sprite.

Wheels MFR does sell replacement axles, 26 tpi, for $15.65. Niagara has an assortment of 3/8" solid axles with cones, dust caps, and nuts, and spacers in the $2.50 to $4.00 range.

Loose balls is the way to go.

My setup does have loose ball bearings, 9 of the on each side, contained by threaded retainers. The axle has a small stop ring tacked 2 1/4" in from the freewheel end, at the end of that side's threads. If one of you has the axle, threaded retainers and bearings and would be willing to ship them to me we could work something out.

Okay, I found a rear hub marked Sturmey Archer and pulled the guts. Here's what I have:

As you can see in the last two pics, the cones aren't in terribly good condition. You're welcome to the whole unit for the cost of mailing. It takes 1/4" bearing balls, and I'd suggest just replacing those with new.
