Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I was able to get in 23 miles of genuine outdoor riding today, between last night's rain and tonight's. It was about 50 degrees with about a 10 mph West wind. I ended up taking the C'dale, which turned out to be good since it was a bit windy, and at a couple spots even its low profile rims got pushed around a little by the wind and the Bianchi would for sure have been worse. When I rebuilt it last year, I put 25mm tires on it, and I've been riding those at 90F/95R, and that's WAY more comfortable than when I was running 23s at 120 psi!! I would describe the ride as firm, but not harsh. Definitely would not be my choice for riding on broken asphalt, though!

The RX100 with 8sp DT indexed shifters is a lot of fun - *plink* and it's in the next gear, plus the 12-25 cassette doesn't have the gaps that 6sp 13-26 has.

So, between real and virtual miles, my total passed 6000 for the first time EVER. 20 years ago I was riding quite a bit and my best year was 3500.

Sounds dangerous.

"Would you like that shaken, or stirred?"

"Neither. I prefer mine shot."

I'm a glutton for punishment. I stupidly volunteered to cook a scratch Swedish meatball dinner for Christmas Eve. It turned out great, but man, it was so much more work than it needed to be; a poor craftsman blames their tools, but their stove, cookware, utensils, etc - all a whole bunch of wtf.

For the daughter's birthday (tomorrow actually) we had ribeyes, baked potatoes, spinach, ceasar salad and pie. Did the ribeyes on the new griddle and they turned out fine. Glad I didn't screw them up. Also made pour over coffee and it tasted good as well. I'm getting the hang of the process. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.

The edge of the property is a mess with overgrowth, fallen tree, etc., and very steep. I can't be bothered with that jungle. It's not as noticeable when the leaves come out.
