^^^^^ Campus doesn't have a parking ramp... er.... parking garage* with a bike parking rack? It would at least be _less_ exposed to the elements.

Yay for Friday! Four days of riding this week. This am's commute was very nice, the last downhill road was smooth pavement today! So nice! Plus I leave work on Friday's at 9:30 am so there will be a nice long ride home today as I do not have my granddaughter to babysit.

Very nice weather again this morning. Almost a little cool for short sleeves, but I warmed up and was fine.

Three day weekend just around the corner!

Beautiful ride in this morning, weather-wise...As I leave at 6:00 AM, it is still dark. Passed a cyclist coming the other way on the MUP...no lights at all on the bike. Saw the usual bunnies and an Owl, actually shared the MUP with a coyote coming the other way across a bridge where the only egress for me was out into head-on traffic and the coyote did not have any egress either as there is a concrete rail that lines the creek side of the bridge, so we just passed each other going in opposite directions. As it was still dark, I did not see him until we were only about 15 feet apart. Thankfully, he just loped on by.
Got buzzed by a driver on a 4 lane road near the office. I know he did it intentionally as he buzzed me and then, after passing me, he changed to the inside lane, which he could have done well back of me as there was no traffic in either lane.
Oh well, it was still a nice ride in.

Nice here too, almost cold in the morning, almost hot in the afternoon.

I saw this little guy, who didn't have such a good day.

Back to commuting after a few weeks off. Lovely cool ride today, light traffic, and I beat the school rush. Just another day in bike commuter paradise!

@rhm, I don't see any blood on the critter. Just possible it's playing 'possum...

Nice ride in after a 3 day weekend. And I only have a 3 day work week. I'm taking off Friday to participate in the Blue Ridge Relay (running). It starts at Grayson Highlands State Park in Virginia and somewhat tracks the Blue Ridge Parkway (though not on it much) for about 208 miles to Asheville, NC. Our team of 12 will take around 26 to 27 hours to complete the route. It should be fun (they say)!

We're back to warm, muggy mornings and hot afternoons for this week.

Two weeks ago today my wife called me at work with some disturbing news: my mother-in-law had collided with a train. She was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle, and died within minutes after the crash. My wife's father was following in the car behind and witnessed the entire thing.
https://dayton247now.com/news/local/...-in-miamisburg

I had a rather rushed ride home from work that day to meet my wife at home. We made a bunch of phone calls and arranged to leave town as soon as we could to drive to Dayton, OH. The family is in pretty rough shape, so my wife and I wound up putting in 14-16 hour days the entire time to arrange the funeral and try and get the family able to function without her mom. I returned yesterday and my wife opted to stay an extra week and fly home.

So, today was the first day back on the bike since August 20th. My body had shifted onto a different schedule the last couple weeks so it felt a bit rough when the alarm went off at 5:45. It was a humid morning. I went for a 3 mile walk and then came home and got on the bike. 15 mph head wind, but the temp was pretty nice. I stopped and took a picture, both for commemorative reasons and to put some distance between me and another guy who was riding like an idiot.

Shortly after I snapped the picture it started to rain. Luckily it wasn't heavy, just a light shower so I didn't get too wet by the time I arrived at work.

Sorry, man. That's difficult.

Bike still grinding at me despite all attempts to isolate inexpensive causes. Under any cornering force and now sometimes while riding straight. Still riding solid. Taking bets.

We know what to do with a possum

Well...I'm a real commuter again! From now until May, I've got a commute that's ~18 miles RT in a new city and state. My previous commute was so short that it wasn't really worth getting excited about, except in the depths of the Wisconsin winter.

Today was the first day of the new commute. Super easy - but man, it's going to take a few minutes to acclimate to this North Carolina heat.

Welcome to NC! You should find the winter and spring quite commuter friendly, especially if you're used to Wisconsin. We are past the worst of the hot days, but yes, still warm. Another week or two and we'll stop seeing 90F.

Good ride in this morning. Had to wait a bit for a garbage truck stopping at each house on one road. Other cars and I could not see around it to see a clearing. I jumped ahead of two cars and peaked around and went for it when it was clear, waving my hand at the car behind me to let him know it was good to go. Later on, I managed to time the crossing of one busier road well as a couple of pedestrians hit the cross walk signal and made all traffic yield.

Great ride in, until my tire blew 2 miles from work. WTH? It was less than 300 miles old.

Think of it as the beginning of July in Wisconsin all over again. That means you've got two more months of summer, followed by 5 months of Wisconsin fall (aka NC winter), and then it'll be early spring again! By May you'll be ready for a REAL summer.

(Assuming, of course, you're not up in the mountains. You might have a winter up there.)

Nice ride in at 12C/54F, sunny, and no wind. I think technically I was supposed to drive today so that I could pick up my kid from piano lesson on the way home, but my wife let me off the hook today.

Some big storms rolled through Monday night into Tuesday so I skipped riding. Cool start with some fog to keep things interesting. Running full headlights now. The swans are back in the pond, saw one slide out from the fog this morning. That time of year battling clothing options with the colder mornings and warm afternoons. I don't have the carrying capacity at the moment for stashing extra clothes for the ride home. Need to get my frame bag put back on.

Decent ride in. Overcast with light winds - very edges of Dorian I suspect. We are not supposed have much more than some winds from this I hear. The situation in the Bahamas is insane though. Devastating.

Pretty good ride this morning. Our gym and showers are closed for now ("contract clause issue"*) so I'm back to the ride-slow-try-not-to-sweat morning ride with baby wipes for now. It's not unworkable, it's just a lot more pleasant to wash off after a sweaty ride. And all my rides are sweaty. I break out in a sweat just looking at a bike.

*The way this place is run, I suspect the contract clause in question is the one that says "this contract ends August 31 and gym workers won't get paid after that."
