Swapping BB spindles?

Converting an old Peugeot Orient Express to coaster brake and I'm likely gonna need to shorten the spindle to straighten the chainline. Current BB is a Tange 133mm and based off the measurements I took I can lose about 4.5 mm of spindle length off each side. Would I be able to just swap this one with the current 133mm?

You have shown a 3S size spindle: https://www.sheldonbrown.com/bbsize.html Measure the one you've got and see how the new one will move your crankset.

Unfortunately the 3xl is not shown on the Sheldon Brown site chart or in my 25 year old Sutherlands Manual. So if I were the OP I would have to measure the 3XL axle to see if it was about 4.5mm longer on it's drive side. Do know these axles are reversible to offer different driveside lengths, at the expense of also changing the left side. I'll add that perfect chain line is not a must, although close is the goal. I would suggest makinh sure the cups are in good shape as this is that time to replace any work bits. Andy

Getting 39mm on one side and 42mm on the other with the 3XL. the (3S) is 35 and 37.5.. so 4mm/4.5mm difference
