New Wheels for a 1986 Klein Quantum
I have owned this bike a couple of years. Old technology such as D/T shifters. I want to upgrade with some new wheels.
Any recommendations?

I'm pretty sure this is a 1986. This one got a Campy Ergo gruppo and a few other modern swapouts.

Assuming your bearings, cones, and freewheel threads are in good shape, just replace the rims and spokes and keep the hubs. This is what I have always done.

You might have a 126mm dropout, which cannot be re-spaced as you cannot bend aluminum. I think you can find a 130mm hub and wheel, but you'd be forcing the wheel into the too small dropout. As well, does this have the shifters mounted on top of the downtube ?. My '89 had internal cable routing and I discovered you could not install cable housing stops on that bracket, which prevented me from moving to STI in the early 90's. Not sure what your upgrade goal is, maybe leave it alone. Or do a SRAM electronic group.

Dark anodized rims on wheelsets look really cool, but only look good when they are new. Once the anodizing start to wear off on the braking surfaces, they start looking trashy. Makes me sometimes think it's best to just have silver/clear anodized rims.

if you don't already have em, $$ tires, which imo is a bigger upgrade than fancy wheels. GP5k or Corsas or something.
the other thing you could do is just get a snazzy front wheel. No fuss about compatibility then.
Anything with black spokes is gonna look bad. The campy deep dish zonda/vento/shamal are real nice. If you can find a clincher that isn't obscenely expensive or flogged out thats a nice upgrade.
