non-grip shifters for kids bikes?

All kids bikes that I have seen incorporate the shifters into the grips. My daughter simply does not have the strength to shift through all of the gears. She cannot shift the front derailer at all. Are there kids bikes that have "normal" thumb-based shifters? She rides a 24" bike.

Yes they do exist but can be hard to find. It may easier to purchase separately and install. Usually the hardest part is finding quality shifters for the typical 6, 7 or 8 speed kids bikes. You'll likely need new grips too.

Shimano SL-TX30. Can be found in pairs as 3x6 or 3x7. Very reliable and easy to use.

I totally agree!!
Grip shifters for a FD on a kids bike is negligence. Neither of my kids could ever move them.
I replaced the left shifter with triggers on my kids bike and it made a world of difference.

I get that the price points of kids
Bikes mean cr@p components. But no kids bike should ship with grip shifters for front derailleur. Do they even try the bikes with actual kids?

I get grip shifters used on craigs list. In one case I bought a $25 bike just for the triggers.
