Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Mind you, I only had half the hero, these are the numbers for the whole thing.

Can you imagine eating like that mostly every day? Even if you burned the cals off exercising or working, the sodium content alone is enough to kill you before a year is out. Yikes! And let's not forget the 4 or more tablespoons of mayonnaise I used, providing an additional 240 calories.

No, I don't want to gain weight that bad. But on the plus side there's no added sugars in a sammich.
Around here we call them Hoagies.

Must be a mid day thing.
On today's ride, an elderly lady in a blue 3-series veered into the wrong lane of a 2-lane road right at a cyclist in front of me. The driver behind her laid on the horn and she drifted back to the right. Then she came directly at me. My only explanation is something called "drawn to stimulus" which you see in people with ****ed-up frontal lobes.

BMW. Mercedes start with letters (C-class) for example.

Jezuz.

I like sandwiches, but hoagie rolls alone are a huge hit to the calorie budget. Looking at the fat and the protein, that's a lot of fatty pepperoni in thar!

Oh, and for those *not* looking to gain weight, Light Mayo FTW! When it comes to light or diet versions of anything, I think that light mayo is prolly the biggest slam dunk, in terms of taste vs fat and calorie savings.

Mayo is an abomination, even on a sammich. I much prefer a small dash of olive oil.

Had the cheese (3 cheeses) sandwich at my favorite cafe. Added the duck bacon, natch.

My problem with footlong subs is that once I get started it's hard to stop. A local sandwich place used to make these great subs, and I'd convince myself that I'd save half for the next day. Never happened. Made for a lot of sleepy afternoons.

Fortunately, even if they're still in business 40 years later, it's now a 5 mile drive to get there instead of 1 mile.

Depends on the meats in the sammich. Ham, roast beef, or turkey, it's mayo and mustard (roast beef might get bleu cheese dressing instead of mayo/mustard, depending on my mood). Italian meats get olive oil and vinegar.

Oh, I've done all of that. They have their place, as does mayo.
