It looks pretty nice! Since I am obliged to quibble, they could improve the seat angle and the handlebar angle. And to ride in L'Eroica, I believe pedals are required.

A slightly less cynical view is, a guy walks into a bike shop and says what do you have that I can ride on L'Eroica? The bike shop doesn't want to send him away with a full wallet, so they call their Bianchi rep....

Interesting what this might, but probably won't, lead to.

I never tried it but friction shifting with a 10 speed cluster doesn't sound fun. Cool looking bike though.

I confess, I like it! I expect the price would be in line with the overall cost of attending.

Wonder who's centerpulls they are using.
Only one bottle cage mount?
Maybe they reduced the radius of the cable wrap on the levers to accommodate the spacing on the 10 speed.

From their rules,

Vintage Style Bikes with steel frame from new or recent construction with vintage look and characteristics may be used only if they are road racing bikes assembled using vintage components or replicated parts similar to the original as described above.
And this is not a new rule, it always been there.

Those 3-arm cranks are sweet. When did Campagnolo start making them? What are they called?

I read recently that L'Eroica rules do allow for vintage-style modern bikes. There are specific guidelines for their design and equipage, and certain modern features are forbidden.

That really dilutes the spirit in which the L'Eroica events were conceived.

The eroica sticker on the bike just looks dumb. Otherwise, I think I like the bike I guess but there are some odd equipment choices. Good luck finding chainrings for that crank and ten speed friction isn't that great of an idea either.

The real question is why would you want to spend big bucks on this bike when you can get a sweet vintage bike for a lot less.

"Vintage Style Bikes with steel frame from new or recent construction with vintage look and characteristics may be used only if they are road racing bikes assembled using vintage components or replicated parts similar to the original as described above…."

So, doesn't this new bike contravene the rules? It sports all new components.
Of course, the word "similar" is open to interpretation. Too open perhaps.

My take on it is 'it's not about the bike' but more in the spirit of riding pre indexing, pre clipless pedals etc (i.e. what WE prefer on our old bikes).
While I don't think I'd personally buy something like the Bianchi, it could be viewed as a gateway drug to get folks into C&V.
whether that's a good thing or not remains to be seen.

Bianchi is working with L'Eroica to ensure that the bike will "satisfy" the requirements,

"To make it easier for anybody to find a bicycle to ride at Eroica Events, the bike is officially certified by L’Eroica as a proper vintage-style bike. - See more at: https://eroica.cc/journal/preview-of-bianchi-l-eroica-bike#sthash.It8x1j9I.dpuf"

Including a few cyclists who have the cash for the Bianchi L'Eroica bike at the L'Eroica events is not going to damage the event or the spirt of L'Eroica. If anything, it extends the credibility that vintage style bikes are great all-around bikes for pavement or gravel roads. It will provide an alternative to modern plastic bikes for cyclists who want a larger tire and plenty of style.

It may also help keep more vintage bikes on the road for another 40 years. I wouldn't mind putting that crankset on my Simoncino or those wheels on my Serotta. I wonder what the centerpull brakes look like.

The only detail that looks like an oversight is using a braze-on shifter attachment on a bike that has very few braze-on features. It just looks inconsistent to have all those elegant chrome cable guides and not finish it with a matching shifter with a clamp-on design.

Forget the L'Eroica connection---that Bianchi is producing such a bike is amazing and delightful.

The preview text says only "10-speed gearing," which is ambiguous but probably means that the bike uses a five-speed cluster. Hard to tell from the picture, but chances are that a 10-speed cluster would not be acceptable under L'Eroica rules.

The photo seems to show a wide range five speed cluster. As far as I can tell by squinting.

Gran Sport. They were used on a few mid-level racing bikes in 1974 or thereabouts---Mirella used them, Raleigh used them on a few models.

"The 10 speed gearing is signed by Campagnolo with a 13-29T cassette"

A five speed cassette for a Campag cassette hub? Looks like a ten speed cassette from the zoomed in grainy pic. Lol. Either way I think it's cool bike.

I approve of major bike companies paying attention to folks interested in steel bikes with non-ugly components. The retro-grouch in me is happy, though I wouldn't buy one in a million years, if I could buy this or this for less.
