Has the Time Change Impacted your Commute?

I get up at 3:50 to leave at 4:30 to make the 5:30 ferry to the island I work on (Coronado). After the time change, I am struggling to get up. My job is flexible, but later means significantly more traffic. Is anyone else having a difficult time with the time change?

It takes a couple of weeks to get used to the 'earlier' wake-up and departure times, but you do get used to it. Because I leave home at 6 am, I find the hardest thing for me is the darkness for the entire ride, whereas before the time change it was more or less light out when I leave.

In the last three years of work before retiring, I would arrive at work in the summer at 9 am EDT and 8 am EST in the winter. So I never had to adjust to the time change.

Whoa! Getting up at 0350 is gonna hurt no matter what, but is obviously exaggerated by moving the time forward. For me the only thing that has really changed is the amount of light on the ride home, but that was slowly happening anyway with our march toward summer. I am a fan of picking a time and leaving the clock the same year round. Hawaii doesn't observe DST and everything there seems fine . I heard a blurb that congress was "debating" getting rid of time changes?

Yes, the "Sunshine Protection Act" cleared Congress on 16 Mar so it should be awaiting the presidents signature to become law. If it does indeed become law, it will take effect next year at this time and DST will be the norm.

Not sure why, but this year the time change has hit me harder than previous years. I may try leaving later and see if I can deal with the increased traffic.

I do appreciate more daylight in the evening.

My commute from the bedroom to the computer in the living room hasn't been impacted much.

If this so-called "Sunshine Protection Act" goes all the way, the end result will just be that every day of the year has shifted earlier than it was before DST started. Annoying to me since I prefer to start my day later.

Me, I'd prefer Standard Time year around over Daylight saving time. If DST becomes permanent, we would have over 100 days per year in which the sun doesn't rise before 8 a.m. in my area.

Uuuughhhh. That measure in Congress has only passed in the Senate. It still has to go to the House, then the presidential signature.. Hopefully they will come to their senses and impose standard time.

No, it just means that I have to turn on my headlight on the way to work instead of the way home. In a week or two, I won't need a headlight at all.

I'm not sure what's so bad about the Sun telling us the proper time just because some people want to wake up early.

My job is flexible, so in that respect I could just get up an hour later to compensate. The issue is that everyone else doesn't adjust their schedule an hour, so there is a lot more traffic if I leave an hour later.

Is it the same as what I did? 9am EDT in the summer and 8am EST in the winter? In the fall and winter, I get a nice quiet commute to work. In the spring and summer, my commute would be with busy traffic.

Yes, I would have to do the same. So far, I have been getting up earlier to make it in at the same time... but it is painful. Unfortunately, more traffic on my route make it a LOT less safe!

I go to bed around 8:30-9 and get up and get up at 3:50. The issue for me and the reason for this thread is that 3:50 became 2:50 with the time change!!

Thanks on the tattoo, but just a pic for the Interwebs! I have been thinking of getting a flaming bicycle wheel on my calf though.
