Handlebar mounted cages?
Anyone got a lead on where to get some handlebar mounted cages for a decent price? Not the kind that goes on one side of the stem, but is mounted so that it is centered with the stem so I can keep my brake levers on the flats. Something like in this pic but any ideas would be great...

It doesnt have to be the TA, that was just the only pic I could dig up, price is definitely a factor for me on this.

I was afraid that the T.A. cage would not fit between the interrupter levers and I'd have to move them, recable and rewrap the bars. I was happy to find that it fits exactly, just like I installed the levers with the cage clamps in mind.

It says on the Minora site that their bracket only fits 7/8" (mountain size) bars, yet they show it mounted on road bars. Lame.

Note, it's not classic or vintage to have threadless, but King Cage's new Top Cap Cage Mount is pretty slick.

I've got the Minoura bracket for two cages on the Nitto randonneur bars, with a technomic stem, on my Gitane. I think Minoura also makes a single version. It works well enough but I've broken five or six bottle cages in the couple of years I've been using it. They just fracture at the welds for some reason--maybe because road shock is amplified at the handlebars relative to that lower on the frame, where most bottle mounts go. I've tried several brands--they all quietly break for no obvious reason. A couple of expensive stainless steel bottle cages would probably solve the problem--but I'm too cheap to go that route. Stupidly, too, since I've probably spent more on broken aluminum cages at this point. Come to think of it, I haven't broken one in over a year, but that's probably because I have mostly been riding other bikes lately.

Yeah, I kept thinking, "well, maybe this one won't break..." Dumb. But if I'd put a couple of expensive stainless steel cages on there and THEY'D broken, too, I would really have felt even worse. Anyway, I've given up: When the next one breaks I'm going to just start carrying my water bottle in my jersey pocket.

This is great, but you need aerobars:
otherwise this little thing:
allows you to mount any cage of your choice on your handlebar. It is a Minoura BH-60 and costs about $8.

I have the Minoura double bottle mount, I paid less than 6 dollars for it. They are not favored by most here, but I like it.

I got the same look and function with a pair of single Minoura adaptors. I am delighted with the result, and I have never broken a cage.

I made my own out of aluminum bar for about $1. It fits in the stem's clamp bolts, and hangs down in front.
