From the video:
The sky is not falling ...
It's not uncommon for [companies] to make cuts like this.

Making cuts... but what were the pre covid staffing levels? Are they simply returning to those levels?

Giant is definitely not the only one.Specialized just abruptly canceled the “Ambassador program” where they were paying upwards of 40 Internet influencers $1,800 a month to push the Specialized name. So $1,800 x 12 equals $21,600 x 40 equals………. A measly $864,000

Who is that guy in the video, and why would I put much stock in anything he says?

People have backed off on buying all sorts of outdoor equipment. There are covid fire sales of bikes now showing up on facebook and craigslist. Bike manufacturers took advantage of us consumers during Covid. If they have to cut prices on bikes (which they are now doing) I do not feel bad, because they were overpriced for the past 2 years.
Personally, I hope people quit buying bikes for a while so the manufacturers drop prices more.

2- Bike brands didnt take advantage of consumers during covid. That is an incredibly skewed and victim based way to look at reality.

FWIW - just checked my local craigslist for Trek FX bikes cuz I have 1 to sell. there are more available, at reasonable prices, than I'm used to seeing
if you want a pre-owned one for an entry biker, this is a good time to buy

I hope people slow down on buying bikes for a bit so that "sales" keep going on to bring bikes down to a more reasonable price.

My marketplace spans out further than WI. Lots of people that bought bikes during Covid are now unloading them.
The hell they didn't. My mountain bike that I purchased in 2020 for $5200 shot up to $6800 in 2021 and now it's recently "on sale" for $5500". That scenario played out all across the industry with a majority of the major bike manufacturers.

Also, prices shot up due to skyrocketing shipping rates and delays in port, etc. They were literally paying for storage while the goods were stuck at the port.

My girl bought a Trek Domane in 2020. I bought the same exact bike in 2021 and paid $600 more than she did.
Lost money???? They were making money hand over fist during that time. Shops were selling bikes and bike related gear the minute they hit the floor.
