Touroica II ready to launch!

Now at Ripplewood. They have Internet!
OldCoot That’s a most generous offer. We tried removing the now-non-freewheel, but seem to be unscrewing the cogs from the body, rather than the body from the hub. So getting the busted freewheel off will require a freewheel remover of the right species (IRD?), and a vice-like object …
Rather than have you drive here and still be unable to fix the wheel, we decided that a better bet is for Thor to hitchhike to Cambria tomorrow, have the bikeshop there fix it, and then ride back to meet us at Ragged Point.
Thanks again for your generous offer. Are you going to be at Eroica? We owe you a beverage of your choice!

Sounds like you have it in hand. If not, I PM'd my cell phone. I know have Suntour and Shimano freewheel removers (and a large wrench). Can still assist if needed.

I'm trying to contact Jim Merz, who lives in Big Sur. Hopefully we can connect the terrific three with him.

Posted on CR with an APB for Jim Merz, Jim replied. I'm hooking the three amigos up with Jim, fairly certain he can get Thor back on the road. It'll probably be Titanium, custom, and will cost Thor his next 7 social security checks...

Not a complete tour unless there’s a mechanical that threatens the whole adventure. Good luck guys!
I love Monterey Bay; thanks for the pics. I’ve always heard about the scary stretch through Moss Landing. Maybe one day I’ll move there and offer a boat transfer service.

Day 3…
stunning scenery everywhere
we heard that some people around here play golf…
Thor’s freewheel self-destructed (in a very scenic location). We transformed it into a single speed fixie.
undaunted (or perhaps a little daunted), we continued on and arrived on Big Sur.

I'd have opted for a broken pedal. I'm a traditionalist.

Thor stuck in Big Sur - needs a ride
Looks like the freewheel replacement fell through. Thor could use a ride from Big Sur to either Ragged Point or Cambria. Since he was able to get through much of Monterey to Big Sur to Ragged Point on essentially a fixie bike, the short ride from Ragged Point (where Andrew and Dave will be tonight) wouldn't be much of an issue. Riding from Big Sur to Ragged Point on a loaded touring fixie, however...
If you can help out, PM me and I'll send Thor's contact info. He's in a cell phone dead spot, but can pick up WiFi here and there.

What an adventure! Love the pics, have relatives in Prunedale, have visited the Monterey area often, beautiful and rugged coastline. Long time since going down 1 to Big Sur. Visited Ragged Point in February, spectacular place to stay!
Best of luck to Thor, and will see you all in Cambria. Davester is looking very spry, given his Cino mishap, great to see it.

@Davestr and @SquireBlack have arrived at Ragged Point. Thor was last seen (by us) in a BMW headed towards Cambria. No 'phone and no WiFi here; there are a couple of computers in the Lobby, one of which I'm using to post this message. Lots of gorgeous pictures, but can't post them here!
The phone number of The Ragged Point Inn is 805 927 5708, and there are wired phones in our rooms -- how quaint!

Day 4…
Day 4 started with Doctors Riksheim, Diamond and Black conducting emergency surgery in the Ripplewood OR on Patient Olmo, providing a reprieve for the malfunctioning freewheel and reassembling the derailleur and chain.
Sadly, the patient expired about 10 miles down the road, vomiting ball bearings all over the shoulder. The attitude for the morning was illustrated by Dave’s socks.
After leaving Thor and Olmo by the roadside to hit hike to Vambria, Andrew and Dave carried on, drinking in much amazing scenery (and brutal hills), finishing at the rather luxurious Ragged Point Inn.

Day 5, the last few miles…
Not much to report today. A short day, with mild hills and elephant seals, finishing at the Eroica start/finish in Cambria.

Welcome to Cambria! Congrats on making it here and completing another successful Touroica. Awesome photos along the way. I just rolled into town a couple of hours ago. I look forward to seeing you, the Tourica crew, and other BFers tomorrow at the 11am ride.
