Silly ad.

Guy's crazy like a fox. Brilliant. QUESTION TO SELF: " hmmm. I've got this fairly nice, nothing too far out vintage bike that's pretty clean. How do I get people to look at it? How can I get some internet attention to maybe sell it for more than a couple hundred bucks to some local dolt who's gonna trash it. I KNOW! I'll make an ad that gets so much attention that even the grumpy old codgers on that forum will think about it for days, and they'll all look at it and keep hitting the page. And someone's going to eventually say "clean bike, fairly good, here's a $xxx offer. And I'll say DONE."

If I had asked P.T. Barnum Promotional Consulting Co. to write me an ad, it would probably look just like that. You just wait till you see the Pontiff cranking Stelvio Pass in June.

First time I ever saw a Della Santa I was in a race and Greg Lemond was riding one.
I had no idea what it was at the time, I was riding a Masi.
Now I am mad at myself for not ordering a DS before Roland passed away.

I'm guessing that the seller did, in fact, mean the Hand Built Bike Show, hence my reference to some of the past host cities for said extravaganza. But the malaprop with the acronym is a groaner at best, downright offensive at worst. I sure hope it wasn't a Freudian slip.

I just noticed that the seller's locale is Verdi, NV. That is right on I-80 at the CA-NV state line, a 30 to 45 minute (give or take) drive away from the Reno/Sparks area where Roland's shop was. (I assume his house/apartment/hovel/yurt was somewhere nearby.) I wonder if this is somebody Roland knew trying to liquidate his stuff for distribution to whoever his stuff has been left to. Roland also had an apprentice or some such in his later years - saw him at the most recent Sacramento NAHBS. Perhaps it's him. Whoever it is doesn't sound completely clueless about bikes (that seat post, however, is inexcusable, bad joke notwithstanding), but his communication and marketing skills could use some work.

Or maybe he really is that clueless about bikes . . . .

Picked this up off the "Unofficial Facebook page" . Looks like a family member has shut out his apprentice. May be the reason for the Ebay post.

My 2017 Della Santa

I don't follow the vintage market, especially in regards to the financial value of provenance associated with famous riders. But I think that the $40K price for the eBay Della Santa built for Greg Lemond is highly optimistic.

I had the pictured Della Santa made for me by RDS in 2017. The frame set cost $2K, delivered. The color is Electric Blue from the BMW-Mini. (The color looks lighter in person.)

Roland met all of my specifications without exception. The bike fits and rides as expected.

I can see in the various details of construction that Roland really knew what he was doing. The brazing is especially clean, with good fill at all edges and with no gaps.

LOL. In truth, a nice bike. Yup, and low mileage Integra R's are now trading in excess of 100K. Time to cash in your crypto 'investments' people!

Great bikes. I did a 230 mile trip on mine last summer.

Please excuse the chain placement in the pic.

Might be a little more interested if the bike had Binda toe straps, lol
