For myself, as a Rider? If it checks out as rebuildable (no cracks, dents, or bends on the frame and fork).

I'd offer $100 initially, and be willing to go as high as $200, if necessary.

If thinking about flipping, not more than $75-$100, and that would be a risk.

If you decide to buy and flip it, let me know what you want for it as-is.

If you decide not to fool with it, please tell me where it is.

Looks a bit thrashed. Why is the paint gone from the inside of the chain stay (non-chain side)?

When buying a project bike/frame, I try to pay no more than I think the current market value of the components is, in case the bike turns out to be a trashcan/scrap pile bike when I get home and get into it. That way, I can store the group, or sell it to get my money back if the bike is a write off.

Considering that the paint isn't that great and the components look super rough I would say only $75-100. Myself I would pass on this one it will likely cost more to build up as rider than it's worth. Partially stripped rough high end frame sets are almost always a bad deal value wise. Even if free it is pretty easy to lose money on one.

Why? Probably for the same reason mine has missing paint on the inside of the non-drive side chain stay - The drop outs don't hold the rear wheel in place very well. Unless you have the rear skewer tightened down really hard, the wheel will slip when you pedal hard (like when you are trying take off to get across a traficky road) and pull the front of the wheel into the left chain stay. I don't why this is a problem with the drop-outs, but it is. My best guess (and it is only that) is that the metal is too hard and the skewers can't bite into them enough without tightening them down super-hard. I remember folks used to blame the Rolf wheels that came with the bike, but I got mine as a frame/fork,headset only and I had the same problem with Ultegra hubs that did not have the same problem on other frames, so I think it's the dropouts.

It's a good riding frame, though - great combination of racy, agile and comfy. As a collectable - not so much. Some bikes/frames are like that.
