64.5 miles of pretty much flatness that never really felt very flat. Got too hot too early, too many red lights. SO MANY RED LIGHTS.

@DrIsotope baking at red lights is the worst!

Tried FTP test on the new kickr, maybe I should pay attention to the route, it had me climb up this 10% grade hill forever. Innsbruck UCI Worlds route Cool machine, need to play with it more. mental note I don't need a front wheel block for this rig.

Planning on heading down to Cumberland, MD on Friday and riding the GAP to Pittsburgh over three days. An old friend/student lives just outside of town. We are going to meet for dinner on Monday night. Then I will ride the GAP back to Cumberland over the next four days, staying in different towns. Friday I will drive to Breezewood, do the piketobike, spend the night there and then drive the rest of the way home Saturday.

I heard thunder a few minutes ago, but looking down from the 5th floor windows the pavement is not visibly wet. I say you won't even get hero dirt

What's all this jibber jabber about rain? It finally just dropped below 100º a few minutes ago. The wind is angry. Either something is on fire, or it's kicking up a ton of dust. The sky is grey.

Fire in Murrieta, very near my cousin’s home. Could see the smoke from OC. Got the hill repeats done tonight, no rain. It’s 11:05 pm and my AC just kicked on again. May have to leave the windows closed tonight, first time this year it’s not cooled off.

The 'rain' yesterday never cohered into an actual storm or even shower. The road and all the cars are speckled from where a smattering of raindrops moistened the dust.

This morning driving home from dropping the kids off at HS, I got a particular twinge in my right hand, where that forever-mending broken bone lives. And I thought, that's odd.

About 2 hours later, water sprinkled from the sky for no less than 10 seconds. The bone! It knows! It's like an old timey farmer, starin' at the horizon... as he squints out from under his dusty hat and mutters "Rain a comin'."

Try the ramp test in ERG. I did that the other day. My FTP is nothing to write home about...I had been using 150 based on Strava estimate of FTP and lowering by a smidge....estimate on Strava is 159 at moment. Ramp test put me at 165.

Interestingly...my estimated FTP in 2016 was 187 on Strava...then my motorcycle accident happened.....

We got rained on in Mammoth doing a pre Mammoth Gran Fondo ride.






By the way, I highly recommend this century. It's got it all going on, great SAG stops with good food, a party atmosphere, beer and food after the ride, scenic vistas and approximately 70 miles of roads closed to automobile traffic.

Yesterday was the Gran Fondo and the day was gorgeous but as predicted we had headwinds after about mile 70 and the last 12 miles were pretty hard.

Question regarding knee pain on right knee (popping a lot) is this maybe due to saddle too high, or too low? I am not hyperextending my knee on the pedal stroke.

I bunny-hopped my bike today. Descending Dump Hill on Santiago Canyon Road westbound there is a nasty bump where heaved asphalt meets concrete at one of the toll road intersections. Having just hit this bump hard last week, I saw it coming up again but was moving fast and didn’t have time to check traffic and swing out into lane. So I just reacted and jumped the bike over it. I got both wheels in the air and cleared it. I surprised myself, and I couldn’t begin to explain how to do it.

I'm finding the 10min warm up in the workouts at 1/3 FTP ramp to 50% is pretty rubbish and waste of time. ERG mode on of course.

The first free trial expired (KM limited), on the 7 day free trial now. I'm going to see if I can make my own workouts where I'm not bored in the first 12mins.

I did find my Iphone 6 doesn't like pairing many BT devices and cuts out. Most important cut out the signal to the Kickr while on interval...OUCH darn flywheel would not move. I feared the worst and thought the trainer was broken already!! Moved the movie to my phone and ran the machine and all devices off the Ipad like i've done before and seemed to have worked.

I got 2nd tv for my Zwift room. My iMac is too old and so is IPad for Zwift. Got Apple TV so I could have my phone available for Zwift Companion. I wanted to be able to watch football or other entertainment while Zwifting. So cheaper to get extra tv. Got 32” smart tv at Best Buy 150$. Set it up this weekend and watched football while doing Zwift Academy workout.

I'm trying. Posted about my bunny hop, no one replied, not even any snarky insults!

Last week I used a DynaPlug on one of my tubeless Schwalbe Pro Ones. I got a puncture on a ride, sealant worked. Rode it a few days later and the same hole opened up again. Put the hole at 6 o'clock and it sealed again so I got home. Figured I'd try the Dynaplugs I've been carrying since I got the bike. What an awesome bit of kit! Push it in the hole, pull out the insertion tool, done! Didn't even have to let the air out of the tire. Have put about 75 miles on that tire since then, no problems.

In other news, last Sunday I took 1:03 off my prior PR going up Silverado Canyon Road to the end. 5.6 miles, 850 feet. 26:53 down from 27:56. I was pretty happy about that!

I saw that post, and thought about replying 'bunny hops are easy with clip-ins', but thought that sounded too snarky

DynaPlug looks really cool! And having started from the car & motorcycle world. I'm thinking, why not keep one of those in my car's glove compartment, next time I drive over a nail, just deal with it myself
