Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I have a pair of wide Shimanos (their Volume+ fit), and I wear a 45. I tried on some Sidi wide shoes at a bike shop one time, and their 45's also fit me perfectly. So at least, for me, Sidi and Shimano are both the "same size," and I feel confident ordering them online.

If I ever needed anything besides Shimano or Sidi, I would try and find a place to try them on.

Can't specifically help you but the difference in sizes between my Shimano and Specialized shoes is 44 and 44.5 EU respectively and I'm 10.5 US otherwise.

+1 And for what it's worth, Shimano fits my feet perfectly while Sidis kill my toes. If your feet like a particular brand, I suggest you stick with that brand, or at least carefully try on any other brand before you buy.

fwiw, there are certain products which even pros will choose against sponsors (they will go with another brand and relabel them) because fit and comfort is so important there. These include shoes and saddles.
