I think the only picture I have is of this CAP 304. I have a couple of them. One my father gave to me as my first fishing reel; a hand-me-down reel that he used in Alaska. The other I found at an antique store for next to nothing. The 304’s are my trout fishing reels. I also have a number of 300’s, with full bails, that I use for bass and walleye.

If I dig around, I think I also have some old Garcias and maybe a Ted Williams spinning reel from Sears. Now that I think about, I probably have a box full of old level winds and fly fishing reels.

I have an Abu 6500 I bought second hand in the late 1980s, and is still in occasional use. I use Daiwa SL20 reels for most of the year, but the Abu gets a few outings each year, usually mackerel fishing off Chesil in the summer.

Three reels

I have the following 3 reels. None of them have been used recently. About the only fishing I get in anymore is a trout fishing trip every couple of years. Chronic spine and shoulder issues are not conducive to fishing, at least not the kind I like to do.

Purchase in spring of 1980. 9800 Garcia

New in 1981. Caught, by far, more fish than any other reel I have ever owned. From 2 inch trout to 20 lb. Striped bass. 714Z Penn

From mid 80's. Mostly saltwater with lots of trolling. 712Z Penn
The Z series of Penn are some ot the best reels ever produced. They are reliable and long lasting, easy to work on. Not sure about now, but parts were easily obtained. The only issues I had with them was having to keep bail springs on hand and occasionally having to replace the bail arm. Both of those things after thousands of casts. Really smooth drags.

I had forgotten that I had one of those when I was 12 or so. It was the only Mitchell reel that I could afford at the time - no idea what happened to it.

Gorgeous collection.

Not so many "c&v" reels here at our house. Most are newer Hardy reels, with an Abel, Orvis and Lamson tossed in for good measure.

I just picked up a Lamson Cobalt large arbor loaded up with 10 wt. sinking line for muskies and "juvenile" tarpon.

Will give it a try in the gulf this spring on redfish!

Saving up to buy another spool. They are spendy for the Cobalt!!!

Weather is so nice I should be out fishing...... But here I am. Really a Zebco 33 kind of guy.
My Pflueger Summit, too pretty to use, it sits on the mantle.

Shakespeare spring-loaded fly reel with rod. It works.

A pair of Pocket Fishermen. I actually tried to use one a couple times, might be useful as a boat jigging rod.

Mitchell 900

NIB. The box says Garcia Mitchell, Teaneck, NJ made in France. I'm not sure if I bought this or if it was given to me from my dad's friend that worked for Garcia. I stopped fishing in my later teens but would like to start again in a few years when I retire.

Fantastic collection T-Mar. I have a real soft spot for old rods and reels and have a modest collection myself. You must have been collecting all your life. I bet you can get lost in your collection for hour upon hour upon hour. Simply breathtaking.

So many other brilliant reels which I have never seen before.

I'd be afraid to show my bicycles to the membership, as it would probably get me banished from the forum. Contrary to what most members probably think, I AM NOT A BICYCLE COLLECTOR. There are only about a dozen bicycles and all but two are from my racing days and have been thrashed to within a millimetre of their life. They are severely battle scarred and not pretty. Nor are they nicely displayed, like the fishing collection. However, there is a lot of sentimental value, as they help to keep alive the memories of people, places and events that I cherish.

I fully agree rootboy. I can't think of a bicycle I would appreciate viewing more than a bicycle that has a real history with its owner regardless of it's condition. Money just can't buy that relationship. T-Mar, your two racing bikes are the ultimate forum bikes as far as I'm concerned.

This has to be the single place where this would be thought of as a small number

The Mitchell 300 brings back memories. Had one on a really sensitive light rod with really light test line. Even pan fishing was fun. Most enjoyed fly fishing, bass bugging mostly and enjoyed tying my own.

Same here. Only fly fishing for me. But just recently I decided to dig out my old Mitchell 350 and completely overhaul it. Just for fun. Never took one completely apart before. I enjoy doing things I've never done before. Now that the old spinning reel is all spiffed up, I may just look for somewhere to use it.
Somewhere around here I have a small box of old Mepps lures.

I was also primarily a fly guy. Really enjoyed fly tying.. almost as much as using them. The light spin outfit was an alternative where geography of terrain ruled out the fly rod. My roll casting was never very good.

D.A.M Quick

I'm partial to the old D.A.M Quick reels. They are very well made in 'West' Germany and will last a lifetime. Mine all date from the 60's, 70's and 80's from the last century (sounds like a lifetime away). I still use a few of them today. Smooth, strong and reliable are a few words that come to mind when I consider these classic reels.

The 110, 220, 330, 440 and 550:

2 Finessa's and a Super:

A tiny 1000 and a big 5000 (with asbestos drag):

And my two favourites, a small 110 and a tiny 1000:

My personal collection

Reserved for sale at my pop-up retail venue

My personal user is a Hardy purchased new 30+ years ago, and showing plenty of use, but I avoid collecting them. Too much competition, and prices get stupid...
Anyone here collect vintage/antique SxS shotguns?

I was one of those kids, then my kids did, as well. No grandkids yet, but the great-nephews have had a go at the fish in my pond with a Zebco reel on a Snoopy pole. That simple design, makes it pretty foolproof. The majority of my fishing equipment has Zebco reels, 101, 202, 33, 404, etc.

I agree! When I was a kid, growing up in the '60's in Maine, we used to fish for mackerel when they were running in the harbor. The 300 was the holy grail. A couple of us had them, but the rest of us lusted for them. Me? I was stuck with a Zebco 202, which disliked salt water very much, and a cruddy South Bend (?) spinning reel.
