I play drums and mess around on the synth/keyboard from time to time. Used to play oboe and occasionally clarinet as well. Never could learn stringed instruments.

As both a hobby and part of my job - classical Greek philosophy and science. I also enjoy learning about meteorology, tinkering around with computer systems, exploring industrial and/or dilapidated urban environments, and watching Big 10 football. I used to be a bit of a gamer, but haven't been down that rabbit hole in a while.

Failed hobbies: cooking, gardening (I'm awful at both!), photography, camping (I need to live somewhere dry), running (body gave out), vintage fashion.

I am an airline pilot by profession, but fly aerobatics in my Extra 300 as a hobby. I also race cars and do lots of wine tasting and evaluation for fun.

I build 1/35 scale static plastic tanks. I use the bicycle to go to the hobby shop to get supplies and/or kits.

It''s now 30 kilometres each way since the hobby shop moved.

Cheers

'72 TR6 here - bought it in 2011, belatedly realized that the frame was rotted out, so embarked on a frame-off resto Christmas '11 - July '13. Now, I just drive it, with occasional tinkering. Also keeping my rather rusty '02 Subaru on the road. When/if I realize my retirement dream of a proper 3-4-bay garage with a lift and room for another project, I'll go looking for something else - maybe an old Toyota FJ-40 or a Land Rover, or a 911 (a guy can dream, right?).
This is a hobbies thread, so additionally bad cooking, bad guitar/bass, bad photography, general tinkering

gadgeteer, puttering around, wandering aimlessly, model railroading, budding artist - sketching & watercolors, hating exercise.

biking satiates all of my needs. when i bike, i am stimulated by things i see which can be incorporated into my other hobbies, and when i do those i think about how much i enjoy riding my bike.

it's complicated.

Litespud,

Sweet TR-6! You running electronic ignition? This is my second one. I drove a 1975 all through the 1980's.

Mine isn't really Sapphire, it's a green-ish tealy kind of color. Not British Racing Green and not Teal, kind of in-between.

BTW, how did you mount those driving lights on the bumper and what did you hook the electrics up to?

Sapphire - same as mine My '6 shares DD duties with my Subaru wagon - depends on whether I need to haul stuff.

All things acoustic guitar related. I also do woodworking and have slowly been learning luthery for the past 10 years.

I did these recessed panel wainscoting frames throughout my house because boys will be boys and kicked holes in the walls.

I also use it to support my wife's habit. I need to make something a little nicer IMO though. Years of putting IKEA together and tightening bolts on the kitchen table and chairs means that I could probably move up to cabinetmaking.

When you can't find a medicine cabinet that fits the hole in the wall:

These are the first two guitars I've built.

I have another in the early phases.

I do love Linux, the idea of it, the open-source community but, and there is, unfortunately, there is a but, as a professional photographer, I found that there are too many things I use like photoshop, lightroom, a photo program called ON1 a green screen program that just doesn't run on Linux. I used Linux Mint for a couple of years as what I call my business computer, ran some things under wine, but finally gave up and went back to windows, damit.

electronic ignition, electric fan, modern rear hubs, all LED rear lights, new interior inc. Miata seats with headrest speakers. The front bumper was in decent shape, but not pristine, so I had no qualms about drilling a couple of 1/2” holes to mount the driving lights directly to the bumper. The undermounted fog lights are installed into the bumper mounts. I installed a pair of LED DRLs into the front grille. I moved all the major electricals (Hi/Lo, Fogs, DRLs, Spots, Horn, Fan) onto relays to take the load off the old wiring. The spots are linked to the Hi beams and the fogs to the Lo beams, with override switches on the dash. All the relays are housed in an enclosure with an accessory fuse box in the engine compartment, supplied directly from the starter post. It’s a bit of a Frankenstein anyway, so I’m aiming more for reliability and drivability rather than strict originality.
