I’d have a look for Columbus Max or Spirit on eBay and grab one that tickles your fancy. Maybe search Reynolds 953 as well.

Might be able to find a NOS All-City Mr Pink frameset, if you are lucky. The latest version of the classic closed out around $700 or so for the frameset if i remember correctly.

Under 1k with a lugged steel fork, little more then 1k for carbon. But US made and better quality steel. Will fit up to a 32c but so does my 93 steel giant race bike and my 2010 Carrera

sloping top tube.
im not knocking the suggestion- its a great one really, for anyone willing to compromise on a relatively meaningless want. a level top tube on a modern frameset with rim brakes and carbon fork for under $1k is just so specific, im half enjoying seeing the search.

not sure what the actual price is for those or what it takes to get them in the US.

Can you help me find one?
-horizontal top tube
-rim brakes (regular mount)
-preferably larger diameter tubing
-carbon fork
-NOT endrance geometry
-large tire clearance doesn't matter (I'm fine on 25s)
-preferably the further away from $1k the better
I was leaning towards the Cinelli Vigorelli road in purple, but they seem to be sold out now? Any frameset recommendations? Thanks in advance!

you have a very tough list for that budget. when I have to make a big purchase like this, I write down my criteria in order of importance, so that the ones I am most likely to compromise are at the bottom. since your budget is so limited compared to the rigid list of requirements, something is going to have to give. you could totally buy exactly what you want if you were to triple your budget and buy custom. it all depends on what your priorities are. have you ever heard the phrase "champagne taste on a beer budget"? I think that applies here/

I find this pretty sharp looking. I'd ignore the moniker of "endurance" they use in the product name, a look at their geo table tells me it's not a very endurance fit. Estimated ship dates however not til May

that 2k budget opens TONS of options. some of the options listed above will suddenly apply.
I'd see what Tomii and other custom builder can do for you. see if they can skip all the braze-ons you don't want and maybe sell the frame without a fork so you can save some money that way, you might be able to do it for under 2k. the wait lists on these can be pretty atrocious though, so you have to wait if you really want it.
Kelly
Gunnar
Rodriguez (maybe the Outlaw frame?)
etc.

What size frame are you looking for? There's a variety of steel frameset options at Condor, some on sale, but in odd sizes, eg.

6'2", not a clyde. I just want a steel road bike to compliment my carbon one. My commuter is steel and I'd love to go on long, fast rides on a steel frame.

Yeah, though I wouldn't necessarily dismiss overseas options; a lot of stuff (not sure about Ribble) is going DHL these days -- often delivering within 2-3 days of shipment.

I'd say old 853 it's your best bet. LeMond or something like it? This is a hell of a lot of bike for $625.

What about the Torelli Corsa Strada? A classic steel frame, even if it is TIG welded.
New it's just a bit more than $1K. BYO fork.
I've seen some lightly used Corsa Stradas on ebay for $600-$700, but there don't seem to be any at the moment.
