Does this crank take a special tool to remove?
1986 Panasonic DX 5000.All my other bikes use the same Park crank tool.
Not sure how this one comes off. The hole in the center is round and doesn't
use an allen key

I think there are a few exceptions. TA?
Screw the crank puller so the large part is even with the end of the puller. The large part of the puller should screw into the crank BY HAND.
Once secure, turn the handle so the small part pushes against the bottom bracket. It doesn't screw in.
I DON'T SEE ONE IN YOUR PHOTO, BUT MAKE SURE YOUR CRANK DOESN'T USE WASHERS.

Lucky, that means you probably have the old version of the tool with TA threads on the other side (I'm sure someone will be along to correct me if it was Stronglight...) I lost mine somewhere, as a casualty of working on bikes in the backyard

You've got it right. The older double-sided tool works on standard threading plus TA cranks. Stronglight cranks need a different puller

Once I ruined a decent set of cranks because I forgot to remove the little protective cap from the crank extractor bolt and just pulled the thread straight out. "Geez, why are these cranks on so tight?"
