maybe i'm missing something, but why were you worried about an easy hour? hard stuff the day before make your legs feel like crap? rough day today?

when your legs feel like crap, that's the best time to ride easy vs rest. consider riding until your legs feel better than when they started--don't necessarily stick to an hour. it may not take that long.

I did a tough workout yesterday and after my legs were feeling pretty shot. Lately, the day after a hard interval set has been rough so I expected the same today. Today was a planned easy day (I've been taking an easy day after an interval day), but I still figured I wouldn't feel that great..I was wrong, riding z2 was no problem after the first few minutes. Today at work I had that tired/I did something hard the day before feeling in my legs, which is why I figured an easy hour would suck

cool.

this is not a criticism, but just something for you to consider: what is riding z2 for an hour buying you? an hour is not really long enough to induce much change at that intensity, and if the goal is recovery, then perhaps riding zone 1 would be better. i'm guessing you are riding indoors; a mindless hour at zone 2 can be a little mentally tough. riding at zone 1 could make your legs feel better, sooner, so less torture on the trainer.

you do burn a couple more calories (not much, but everything counts, i suppose).

save those hours on the trainer for productive ones.

again, you know you and your program...i'm just commenting on this practice more than YOU specifically.

instead of complaining you could always bring rollers/a trainer and keep training.

some 6-8 min threshold intervals in 90mins today on tap. I put on a 155 saddle (that I had bought for my wife but she doesn't ride) and finally coming to the realization that I need something that wide. I had picked up a 143 romin a few days ago and may swap that to the 155 version and see how that works.

Once I got to riding z2 is what it ended up being. I didnt really pay much attention to my computer. I usually would just do z1, and I guess I will find out later if yesterday was a good or a bad idea.

Zwift makes easy rides mentally palatable.

Agree completely:

I've been hearing about z1 for a decade.

It was only last year that I discovered how glorious the day following a true Z1 day is. While I used to be "embarrassed to be seen riding so slowly", now I actually thoroughly enjoy z1 workouts, because I'm confident that the following day, I'm likely gonna feel like ripping some legs off.

Of course, you've got to earn the z1 days...

My absolute longest z1 rides are an hour; more commonly they're 30-45 minutes.

Of the 7 days in a week I almost always take 1 day completely off and 2 days z1 spinning. The other 4 days tend to be 200-250+tss. I would not be able to do this if I was not fresh enough. Real z1 is essential stuff.

been sick all week. 2 hours on the trainer today, towards the end couldn't even push z2 and it was making my back hurt. Restarting Build 2 on Monday.

So something cool is that the AWC stuff I'm doing is getting more repeatable, until it isn't....

err...

...in other words, The amount of reps I can do that are within ~50-60w of max 30sec is increasing, but once the bottom drops out, it realllllly drops out and it sort of feels like all of the blood in my legs is replaced with acid. I assume the former is indicative of work paying off and the latter is indicative of how malicious this block has been. The other cool thing is the amount of time it takes to recover from the set and get down to z2 stuff is decreasing as well.

Tomorrow is the last day, 5hrs with 5x15 tempo, should hit ~1050tss for the week off of 24hrs or so of riding.

:O

And here im happy with the chance of hitting 500 tss this week (sitting at 453 right now on 8 hours)

Although, im sure if my job allowed it, I would be doing high volume as well. I like riding just for the sake of riding, and if I could do more of it I definitely would.

2 hours Z2 today. Probably should've done 3+, I'm still feeling pretty fresh. But I spent the morning watching CX worlds, and I've got other things to do.
