Found this small spring on the floor while working on my bike

Any idea where it might come from? The bike in question is a vintage cannondale, with a 7 speed 105SC groupset. I played a bit with the bearing on the rear wheel (but this seems unlikely to involve such a spring?), adjusted the rear derailleur, changed the cables etc. but again I don't see from where it could have come from. The springs of both barrel adjusters on the brakes are still in place. The spring might have fallen on the floor when I removed the bike from my stand. Anyway, any insight would be appreciated!

This is the spring that goes around the intonation screw of the high E saddle on your Strat. Probably fell off when you snapped your string jamming some Hendrix in your garage the other night. Look close, the saddle and screw are on the floor somewhere, too. You will need those unless you want to continue to play a 5 string guitar.

Alright this is probably a dumb question, probably should have slept on it before starting a thread. Learners have to ask dumb questions from time to time I guess

Looks like a spring from a shift cable barrel adjuster.

Spring has sprung and fallen on the floor.

Not from a hub skewer.

+2. Check this first since you mentioned changing the shift cable.

I'd go with a cable adjuster missing such item.

I hate it when a pen is missing its sprung abilities.

If you have an original Volkswagen beetle engine, and take it apart and put it back together enough times, you'll be able to build another Volkswagen engine from the leftover parts, and both will run fine.
