In Council Bluffs, Iowa. These sculptures (4 of them in all) are at least 80' tall and are close to a bike trail. Whenever I have the misfortune of seeing them I think of a shipwreck.

What's that--a bike racer breaking through the tape at the finish line?

Where is that old big beaver picture I took on a bike ride in Yakima years ago? Oh, here it is...
Now that is a big beaver by Matthew Pendergast, on Flickr
Poor old guy was slowly limping across a bike path by the Yakima river. We stopped a softly offered verbal encouragement.
He finally made it to the embankment on the other side for what we all thought was his last dip in the river before he passed away....

Crummy pictures, but this was from Sunday this week (day before Memorial Day) with friends at Richmond Beach about 13 miles north of downtown Seattle. Rode from my place and took the long way home, rounding out a 30+ mile day. This "nothing exotic" 65cm bike weighs just 23.1 lbs, with 44.5cm chainstays and larger tires. The 620 is getting frame work done, so I built this gorgeous chariot and biked to the beach as its "first ride" (with those components). What it lacks in super snappiness, it makes up for in smoothness and willingness to work with its rider. It's still a fun frame out of the saddle, but it's calling card is in-saddle distance riding. Ho-hum Dia-Compe G standard reach brake calipers do very well with the Tektro levers and modern Koolstop pads/holders.
In typical Seattle area topography, the bluffs overlooking most parts of Puget Sound (on the mainland side) require one to descend to the beach/shores below. That was very much not fun on the way back. Start pedaling and then go straight up a 10-15% grade for a few hundred feet in elevation. 1/2 a mile later, rock a 5% grade for a while before things more or less even out. Between rides, it was a great time with friends hanging out, joking, watching the sunset, and making smores.
I love these old Treks.

My neighbor believes in sasquatch and feels they aren't seen often because they are interdimensional beings. Sheesh, you just can't argue with that sort of logic.
(He also feels he likes the outdoors so much because he is 4% Neanderthal. He becomes upset when I point out that Neanderthals have been extinct for at least 50,000 years.)
Perhaps he's the reason I like bike riding -- to get away.

Hot tub in the middle of the woods, Lake Creek Trail, central Oregon. Sadly, it was not operational and ready to go, otherwise...
