It's been a while since I got to feed my hobby by working a bike event. Yesterday was the annual Tour de Creme in Mattapoisett, MA after a three year covid hiatus.

A Dusty (at times) TNG

After the chilly spring we had here in the Minneapolis area, I'm kinda liking this heat—just a little. Here are a few snippets from tonight's Tuesday Night Gravel ride.

Yes. We slowed our roll some so we minimized the risk of startling them.

TNG with a Stop at Keepsake Cidery

The gravel roads are bone dry and a little sketchy in places where fresh gravel has been laid down.

We had another fine turnout for our Tuesday Night Gravel (TNG) ride with the Cannon Valley Velo Club out of Northfield, Mn. The nice folks at Keepsake Cidery south of Dundas were kind enough to open for us tonight (they're usually only open on weekends) and I believe we made it worth their while!

Riding the Washington Secondary Bike Path. Cranston, Warwick, West Warwick and Coventry R.I. Nineteen miles from Cranston RI to the Connecticut border on a 2-4% grade. The reward is the return leg on a 2-4% down grade. It looks flat and when riding you kind of feel like your out of sorts. Once you realize it's uphill, you really look forward to the downhill return ride.

I see that most people are posting ride videos that they made themselves. I don't have the means, and I didn't make this one, but want to share it anyway because the ride is so cool and he did such a good job. The music's not bad, either, imo. If you ever go to Tucson, don't miss Saguaro National Park East's nine-mile, mostly one-way Cactus Loop Drive. I must have ridden around it 100 times in the '70's, so to me the video has a mesmerizing quality that may be missing for others. Still, it's worth at least five minutes, I would think...

Going back for a visit last fall was like stepping into a time capsule - the only thing that had changed, it seemed, was me.

Coolness! I've been putting a camera on my bike on occasion and setting it to Time Warp. I just shared a couple in the Great Lakes regional forum in case anyone in the area is interested in them, but if sharing here is okay, here they are.

No sound nor cool editing. I should at least get a mic and improv some guitar or piano, but my playing is rusty.

Both are in Northeast Ohio.

Here's a 30X Time Warp of a portion of the Maple Highlands Trail.

And a 15X trail of a portion of the Western Reserve Greenway

I don't always include videos of bikes and people on bikes. There are rides when we notice that it's a "Wonderful World".

The Mesabi Trail and Iron Range Roads

My wife and I made a trip north to Minnesota's Iron Range last weekend where I took some time to ride parts of the Mesabi Trail—something I've been itching to do. It was well worth the 4-hour drive north to check it out.

Making Moo Friends

Scenes from yesterday's ride of 57 miles / 92 km. A line of showers came through the night before leaving behind some dustless gravel, something we've not had much of this summer. It was a beautiful day to be on two wheels! Also, we're now enjoying the Idaho Stop (legally) in Minnesota as of last week. I quite like it!

River Bottoms Romp

Due to spring flooding that lasted into the summer, this was my first river bottoms romp since sometime last winter. It was nice to be riding the familiar trails again. Some tall grass had me slowed in places but it was never long before the trail opened up again - a few minutes at the most. I rode both the north and south sides of the river between I-35W and the city of Mendota.

Last Night's Keyword was "Hydration"

Last night's keyword was "hydration". It's usually not one of my strengths but I did okay. The temp and the humidity were oppressive!

I rode the St. Paul Classic with my daughter and two of her friends last Sunday. It's always a well-organized and fun event.

I was invited to attend the 45th anniversary of the 1978 Crested Butte to Aspen ride over Pearl Pass, when Joe Breeze, Gary Fisher and I introduced mountain bikes to Colorado. Since I'm 77 and live at sea level, I told the hosts that I would need an e-bike to ride at 11,000 feet elevation. They found me one.

Even with the assist, you still have to ride the bike.

I got to work another event on the South Coast of Massachusetts. The annual Buzzards Bay Coalition "Save The Bay Watershead Ride." Bikers had a choice of 100-75 or 40 mile routes. It draws a wide range of riders from near and far.

Autumn Ride

First off- is it just me or does this site take painfully long to load with its overabundance of ads? I would love to peruse more of the site but it's simply not worth the hassle.

This is a video from two days ago on a mild autumn day here in Minnesota. Lots of yellows in the foliage with some pops of reds and oranges.

The River Bottoms on a Quiet Sunday Afternoon

I've been riding the River Bottoms trails for nearly 12 years. It's a near-magical place situated between suburbs of Minneapolis/St Paul and in the shadow of the MSP airport. I remember the first time I made my way down there on my Mukluk fat bike. It seemed surreal. It's a gem of a place to ride and leave the troubles of the world behind.
