Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My grandfather was a White Owl man. My dad smoked a pipe, until the word got out. I tried one cigarette, in high school, and later smoked cigars, but really only enjoyed the chewing of the butt after the smoking was finished.

My Grandfather was a chainsmoker. In fact he'd forget he had a cigarette burning, left on the edge of an ashtray, and light up another one. The first one would keep burning until the front end had burned away enough that it no longer balanced and they'd fall off the ashtray. All the tables Mom and Dad inherited from him and my Grandmother have little burn scars from that.

You can halt an upcoming flight, but not one that's airborne.

Easy enough to divert them. Happens all the time.

I saw a video, years ago. I think it was an outtake from UP's film celebrating the Big Boys as they were leaving service. A fatherly type is standing close to the tracks waving, with a young boy next to him and the kid is trying like hell to get the hell away from that huge noisy thing! In the actual film, they used an older child, and maybe stood farther away.

Our air is nice and clear. Also moving quite a bit. On Wundermap, a lot of the "Temperature and Wind" jobbies have those little flags on them indicating steady wind speeds > 10.

In fact I watched one turn around in real time. I was out on my bike. The skies were empty that day my friend. Like an old man trying to send back soup at a deli
