Mystery vintage sealed cartridge Hubset, help?!
Wondering if anyone with a deeper knowledge then myself may be able to lend a hand in identifying these old sealed cartridge bearing hubs I’ve got…
They’re 5 speed road hubs, 120mm rear and 100mm front, sealed cartridge bearing, high flange, 36 hole.
beveled on the inside of the flanges. They’re reasonably lightweight.
they don’t quite lineup with anything that I can think of yet near similiatities and differences from all the usual suspects like early Weyless, American Classic, Hi-E, Bullseye etc…
any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

They look like vintage high flange Phil Wood hubs that have been painted black.
Unpainted PW hubs from Bike Recyclery.

Old Phils were steel shelled, no? You could do a magnet test.

They do bare a really close resemblance to those Phils, and I did notice under the black appears to be the texture common on the old steel shell of Phil’s where they’ve got some corrosion…
they are a steel shell, but also still not exact, the Center shell seems to have a slight ramp to the flange, and also the rear axle is a bit different as well? Though I believe picture are what we’re actually the second gen Phil’s from the late seventies into the early eighties and I’m having a hard time finding any photos of he earlier first gen used only in the 70’s…
thanks somuch for the assistance everyone!

The early Phil hubs have a fillet just inboard of the flange.
‘they look the part, no doubt the bearings will interchange as they are the character.

This is a pair of older phil hubs. These are low flange, 120mm rear, 100mm front.
