The new Scott Addict Gravel has my eye, looks like an aeroish road bike, but has gravel geo and clearance for 45s.

Is that how low the stack/steerer tube comes stock? Probably wouldn’t work for many. But of course it looks cool (racey), and that’s what matters 😉

Who looks at the name when riding their bike?

You probably don't and neither do the people you ride with. Not any different than Trek, Specialized or Cannondale being displayed on the downtube.

The largest Scott frame size is 609.7mm stack with 406.1mm reach.
Compare that to a common offering like the Trek Checkpoint where 609mm of stack height means a 391mm reach which is in their second largest size. The Checkpoint in the largest size is 638mm stack and 397mm reach. So it is 2cm taller stack and 1cm shorter reach.
The Trek Domane endurance bike with 611mm of stack has 380mm of reach which is significantly more upright than the Scott gravel bike. Even the largest Domane with 646mm of stack only has 385mm of reach.


The Scott is definitely on the aggressive side of things when it comes to stack and reach.
It also inexplicably doesnt show the fork rake or overall bike's trail measurement. That is just something I cant stand- there is no justification for not including such numbers at this point- its 2022. How a bike is expected to feel when steering should be given in the geometry tables. Its kind of important.

Nah, that's just a promo shot, in fact, that's the 30 model frameset, but it doesn't come with the one piece cockpit or SRAM, so they just threw it together for the pic. They come with the usual huge stack of spacers.

I've narrowed down to the Exploro or Aspero (or Calendonia. Maybe.) I think. Canyon now shows Grails as "Summer 2022" and I got word from the US distributor of Ridley that they're looking at December 2023 for Kanzos. Yikes.

On sizing, the L Exploro looks more like a M (56). The numbers on the XL are much closer to the Cervelos in a 58. Courtesy of our fine folks at 99spokes.com --

Looks like I'm an XL in the Exploro.


For reference, my current road bike (Fairdale Goodship) is 593/399. I like the reach and going a little taller is a good thing.


So yeah, after Spring Break I'll take a day-trip to Boulder and check the two out. Fingers crossed!

That looks like the bars are at their max height and there is 20mm of spacers underneath that could be removed(the last spacer stays since that is how the cheap integrated cable solution requires, I believe).

$70 for a different stem length because the stem is proprietary, and you better like -6deg for the stem angle because you arent getting anything else.
Fully internally routed cables thru the headset that make maintenance a pain.
Fully integrated cockpit on higher level models that make the rider fit the bike instead of vice versa.
Proprietary seatpost that limits options.
'Aero' tubes that are totally negated the moment you toss on a handlebar bag and/or a race number.

Cool paint jobs though.

I'm also a mainly road and sometimes turn off to the trail type of rider (esp when bike touring)
Wanted a bike that I can easily take overseas for faster ride events too, and not be too slow with a full touring bike.

So I decided to get a custom Ti bike for my needs with the Ritchey Breakaway system.
Takes up to 32mm,700c tires and 42mm for 650b
7.8kg all in.

What is too “gravel” about the Warbird? Swap for a set of 38-40ish slicks and you have a perfect bike for what you are describing. Two friends have bought them and use them for what you are describing.

I'm not sure what you mean by "Gravel Geo" but the geo is almost identical to my Trek Domane road bike.

The new Specialized Crux would fit the bill nicely. Its an endurance road bike that fits wide tires. Basically an Aethos with larger tires. I'm guessing anything with the "S" is out of your price range.

What tire size is your primary, and what is the range you would like to accomodate?

Personally, the Crux is pretty similar to the Canyon I bought actually (Inflite). Its my do everything bike (from road racing to gravel racing, commuting, single track (non technical)).

I don't know canyon's latest availability, but there are 3 choices - somewhat separated by tire size and geometry (race to endurance)
Sporty/racy and super fast: Inflite
All around gravel: Grail
Endurance, touring, fatter tires: Grizzl.

Not really, comparing 56cm sizes, the Scott has 1* slacker ht angle, 7mm less bb drop, 5mm longer chainstays, 40mm longer overall wheelbase (most of that from the increased front center). Those things make a difference when you're off road. Stack is about the same, but the reach on the Scott is 20mm longer, so you'll be a lil lower being stretched out, it's meant for racing.

Splitting hairs. Unnoticeable difference. And reach can be adjusted with stem length.

Having done a few gravel races myself...I think these gravel bikes with ~71 degree HTA are too steep. I think Fezzari nailed the correct HTA at 68.9.

I haven't had it out more than a couple of times and just on pavement but I'm really pleased with it's road manners. It has a lot of snap when you pedal and the handling is sharp but secure. It rides well too, some complance but not too flexy. Honestly, it's exceeded my expectations so far! I put lighter wheels and tires on (44mm Rene Herse slicks) and full fenders and it's just over 21 pounds. It is a good value, even with my upgrades it was around 4 grand. Here 'tis prior to bartape:

Love fenders and white walls. Reminds me of Schwinn's first mountain bike sized tires - which were literally white walls. 'course we didn't call them mountain bikes back in those days - but Gary Fisher had a vision...

Agreed. In addition to the Crux and Inflite, I'd add the Cannondale Supersix Evo SE - these are all bikes that fit wider tires, but otherwise generally behave a lot like road bikes. Similar to the Cervelo Aspero.

Really tough, superdex should buy an older SuperX... which also happens to fit the bill nicely and the names match.
