Any truth to the rumor that there will be no Cat 5 races in USAC next year?
Some guy on our club forum said that everything is going Cat 3/4 next year and to race those you have to "qualify" not sure how you can do that if theres no races to gain experience....
Please tell me this is an early april fools...does anyone know whats going on with this for real. I just got started in this stuff a little less than 2 years ago and I love racing but I don't have time to train to run with 3/4s and it would basically eliminate me completely from being able to race anything.

Anything is possible, but (having no hard information either way) I highly doubt it. If anything maybe your guy is talking about a specific race or series?

I work 50 hours a week that involves weekends and have other commitments, not everyone gets to ride at 1pm everyday for 3 hours. I'll also never weigh 150lbs.

Back on point not sure you could get rid of cat 5, it is a great training ground.

Back on topic, in the UK we abandoned Cat 5 a few years ago. It doesn't seem to have made much difference, except to reduce the number of low-Cat races with very small fields.

Is USAC women's cat 4 like men's cat 5, or do they just not have a version of cat 5?

Ha, you race in 'cats'. Who needs cats? Maybe as a pet I guess.. but they're boring.

Entry fees will be 65 bucks. Plus payback top 10. Plus you have to qualify for the money events. And you have to be on a team.
Thats the other part of the rumor, I could prob go cat 4 by end of year but I was looking forward to maybe having a shot to win some races at some point in Cat 5 before moving up, given my lack of time to train Cat 4 is likely the highest I could go and Id rather not be forced into it

Sheesh... does every single thread have to degenerate into mindless banter? Isn't there a specific thread for that? It's getting really old!
And on the topic, the rumor has enough legs in my part that some Masters Cat 4 guys are focused on getting the points needed to cat up this year, in case it happens.
