Shimano RSX Brake-Shifters - jammed?
Hi,
I'm trying to re-cable an old pair of Shimano RSX brake-shifters but am having difficulties getting the cable out of the right hand shifter, which despite being shifted down to the hardest gear, is not giving me access to the cable head. On the left hand brake I didn't have this problem at all.
I'm not sure of the history of these brake-shifters, so I'm wondering if it might be jammed?
Here are some pictures
Non-accessible right hand side
Accessible left hand side
The brakeshifter with model
Any help would be much appreciated!

It's either jammed on a frayed cable or a pawl is frozen. If the latter, flooding it with penetrating oil may free it up.

Grab the frayed cable end with some pliers and try twisting and pushing the cable to break loose the cable end in the shift lever. Make sure you twist the cable in the direction that doesn't unwind the cable.

Flood the mech with penetrating oil then clamp the exposed cable end into some type of stable clamp and pull on the body of the lever while downshifting.

Also, I've found on RSX brifters, that if you shift down (release) without enough tension on the cable, the knarp (cable end) can come out of it's groove and jam between the pulley spool and the shifter body.
Either way, see the disassembly video. RSX is a fairly robust mech, you should be able to get it back in service.
